DUAL St Kilda best and fairest winner Sam Fisher has resisted the lure of free agency by signing a one-year contract extension that will see him play a 13th season in the red, white and black.
The 33-year-old – who is St Kilda’s oldest listed player - battled with two-injury interrupted seasons in 2013 and 2014 but returned to good form this year, managing 18 senior games.
"I'm really excited to sign on again for another year," Fisher said.
"We have such a young and exciting group that has worked hard to produce some good, solid performances and I’m really looking forward to seeing their improvement in the future.”
The tall defender - who was taken with pick 55 in the 2003 National Draft - celebrated his 200-game milestone in round two and averaged seven marks and 18 disposals per outing.
Senior coach Alan Richardson said Fisher’s mentorship to the young group – especially emerging prospect Hugh Goddard - was invaluable.
“Sam’s form this year has been outstanding and shows how important his role is within the team,” Richardson said.
“He also provides great leadership, particularly for our young defenders, and his experience goes a long way in developing our young group.”
Fisher’s signing comes as young gun Darren Minchington put pen to paper in a one year deal on Tuesday, following a string of re-signings in recent weeks including midfielder David Armitage, defenders Sean Dempster, Sam Gilbert and ruckmen Tom Hickey and Jason Holmes.

Re: Sam Fisher Re-signs
If either Delaney returns to form in 2016 or we land Carlisle in the off-season I think we'll see an even better season from Fisher next year. With Delaney/Carlisle and Goddard to take the key forwards Chips could finally go back to his support role to use his brilliant reading of the play to cut off more entries and have more offensive impact.

Re: Sam Fisher Re-signs
Excellent news. A great Saints person. In the heat of battle, his expertise on the field will be of enormous help to the younger guys.
Not playing too badly either.
