When should St Kilda attack Free Agency?
I originally thought at the end of season 2017 however I now feel it should be at the end of 2018.

In the next 10 years if not earlier. Certainly from this year onwards but if not this year then either next year or the year after or the year after that. As long as we get a FA before we get a pick for Jack Steven.
In short we need a FA eventually but I'm not sure when. Maybe after we retire Fisher even though he just signed.

Yep. 2001 is like 2015. 2002 is like 2016. 2003 is like 12 years ago.

Right. It all makes sense wen it is so simple. Why dont more people think like this?plugger66 wrote:Bunk_Moreland wrote:Dont we get Bennell as a FA if we delist Lee? I think the Saints should attack Free Agency now as it clearly favours other clubs.

Re: When should St Kilda attack Free Agency?
First question, who is actually up as a free agent. We would want someone who can give us 100 games right now.
We don't need top up players, though depth, which we can trade for and use draft for are worth having.

Think of me long enough to make a memory.

I am not sure we are framing this debate in the right way. Everyone seems to be treating it as canon that it needs to be at one single point. As though you can only ever have one FA. Really we should be looking at whats available every single year and judge them each on their own merits. I am not sure I buy into this idea that you have to time your FA as if you only get one. We should not have any salary cap problems. If anything we are over-paying a lot of ordinary footballers right now. I just dont buy this footy myth that we should only look at FAs at one point in time and one point only. Who decided this was gospel anyway?

Looking through the list - the only one I would have wanted who was up was Easton Wood - but he re-signed during the year.Bruce G McAbee wrote:First question, who is actually up as a free agent. We would want someone who can give us 100 games right now.

Re: When should St Kilda attack Free Agency?
So for me it would be 2019-20. More chance getting the out of contract player from GWS for quality than free agency. I feel free agency only allows you to go from top four to winning one. Just need to get in that top four somehow.

This is your answer, Ladies and Gentlemen....ROLS-LEE wrote:Use free agency on the right players. Don't use it for the sake of it.
We target and attract the right players first, then if we can get them as free agents, great. If not, then we trade for the same players. Doesn't matter if that's this year, next, or 2025, identify the right players and make the move when necessary.
