Re: Farren wants to play for 2 more years
Take the one year deal Faz, it's one year more than I was expecting him to be offered
I like him as a player and would be happy for him to play on

Re: Farren wants to play for 2 more years
Don't even slightly see the point of him playing but obviously the club does. I don't see how it is like Schneider playing because one he was a much better player and two more guys are getting to around 50 games each year.

Re: Farren wants to play for 2 more years
Good news. I think he's in our best 22 but sometimes doesn't get a look in in the interests of developing kids. A seasoned veteran still with plenty to offer IMO. One year deal keeps him alive.

Schneider probably in our best 22 so if he did want to play on next year you obviously wouldn't mind? Do you want all the older guys to play every game they can and then all retire in the same year? Anyway he is far from in our best 22 based on games played this year. He maybe level with some kids but common sense suggest you don't play the older guy if he isn't clearly better than the younger guy.

Did he want to play on? He's had a lot of injury problems over the years so I figured his body might have told him enough was enough.plugger66 wrote:

Ray is more durable and until this year has almost always been able to get on the park.
Any case I support the club in its decision to offer him another year. It seems you are at odds with the club on this one.

I agree with Dad…plugger66 wrote:Don't even slightly see the point of him playing but obviously the club does. I don't see how it is like Schneider playing because one he was a much better player and two more guys are getting to around 50 games each year.
While Faz is obviously a good AFL-level player, we have a tonne of young guys who play his position who need game time.
Here's a list of guys I'd probably like to see in the side before Ray at the moment…
Savage, Acres, Markworth, Newnes, Roberton, Webster, Wright, Saunders, McKenzie, Shenton
Plus hopefully we draft a couple more players that warrant a game early on.
I think Schneider may have been asked to play another year if we hadn't of un-earthed 2 absolute guns in Sinclair & Lonie… I don't think we'll miss Ray much if he called it quits, he's been a great servant though.

Yes it appears I am. I don't see how he plays next year based on this year. Seems we are happy having depth at Sandy.

Re: Farren wants to play for 2 more years
Great good for him.
Well Farren sandringham needs players like yourself for the next 2 years ... Oh you want to play AFL?? Lol!!
Good luck with that. Maybe Carlton or brisbane will want you.
Seriously F Ray should not be given another contract. Just clogs up gametime for our next premiership players. Im sure Richo wont give him a new contract.
Youve been great farren we love you but time is done thank you.

Saints admin think he is worth one more year at AFL level, you think you know more than them?SMS wrote:Great good for him.

What a disgraceful post on a great servant of the club. He has played 200 AFL games, how many have you, you keyboard hero?
Clueless and insulting.

Re: Farren wants to play for 2 more years
Keeping Farren is a good insurance policy if the draft is as shallow as they make out. We have had a relative good run with injuries this year compared to previous years and would have played more games

Shut down the forum, Bunk says you're only allowed to post if you've played 200+ AFL games.Bunk_Moreland wrote:He has played 200 AFL games, how many have you, you keyboard hero?

Re: Farren wants to play for 2 more years
I think Farren has been good for our club, and my guess is that his contract is for depth, ideally a youngen gets the nod ahead of him.
Perhaps the decisions have been made and there are enough picks already for the draft.
Seems to me there is quite a few young guys who we are not sure of so to go all out on more unknowns might confuse the issue.

Re: Farren wants to play for 2 more years
And what is the club going to think about him going to the press with his grievances?

100% agree with both. Need to find out if some of these kids can develop into elite mids. But for now thats one position we have plenty of back up.

Take the year and if form warrants it they will offer a 2nd. You can't be too greedy. I don't think any other club would pick him up if he went into the draft.

Re: Farren wants to play for 2 more years
It's interesting when these types of threads come up there so often is a majority that screams bloody murder if you dare suggest a senior should be moved on...
For guys like Jones, Gwilt, Schneider etc So many times I have heard: we need their experience, their leadership, their football brain... We don't want to expose the kids to 15 goal thumpings every week and so forth.
Yet for Faz, the majority seem to want to sink the boots in.
It's interesting.
Personally, I'd like to keep him as a depth player. Let him come in when more seniors players are injured/need a rest. Will be good to have some leadership and experience at Sandy. Sign him up for a season and review

A year seems fair based on age and form. happy to give him that. two years? you want it you earn it next season.

Re: Farren wants to play for 2 more years
Agree with this. Schneider played in a specialist position. It was only when Sinclair and Lonie came along that meant he became surplus. But Faz plays in a generic position. Faz is statistically one of the worst kicks in the AFL. Yes we all know he is courageous, durable, reliable and a top bloke. But I dont see much use in him playing on in front of Webster, Acres, Newnes, Savage.dragit wrote:I agree with Dad…plugger66 wrote:Don't even slightly see the point of him playing but obviously the club does.
