Re: I hop ethey do.
Think he will just be emergency this week. Hickey has played well these last 2 games and if we are going to have someone come in to replace the 'resting forward' ruck it should be membrey as he's kicked 9 goals the last 2 weeks at vfl which would be the structure we've used most of the season anyways
Re: I hop ethey do.
He really doesn't deserve to play. Just playing him to be the first imported American isn't that professional but im sure it will please many.

Re: I hop ethey do.
This game has always jumped out as the game he's likely to play, we're going to want to do it in a week where we are the home side to hopefully get a few more bums in seats and get a bit more attention for the club.
I don't think that the cue is in the rack by any means but I think the approach to the last handful of games has and will continue to transition to a time of testing out a few youngsters and probably sending a couple of blokes away to get ready for next season.
If Membrey misses out for Holmes however I would suggest we've gone too far.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Longer rested and if Holmes goes alright be sent for any treatment he needs before the off season. He's show enough to suggest he's the number one ruck going forward.

I hope they do too....but P66 is right...he hasn't quite earnt a game.....
....but the publicity would be good......
.....and last week P66 argued that Longer & Hickey shouldn't be in the same team (fair point).....so Holmes is even harder to justify
......is it tanking if we were unlikely to win anyway?.........

Its certainly not tanking but it is playing guys who don't deserve to play and dropping guys or not playing others who deserve to play. Longer would have to be dropped and membery probably cant play which is slightly unfair.

i'm with bunk here. why do you guys think jason doesn't deserve a game? think about it this way. jason'll easily get plenty of taps, and plenty to our advantage too. that'd be a nice flowering change!!! and ffs, he'd hardly get too many less possessions than billy boy does!plugger66 wrote:Toy Saint wrote:I hope they do too....but P66 is right...he hasn't quite earnt a game.....

Correct. Two years ago you wouldn't have dreamed he'd ever be anywhere near senior selection now. It's a great effort so farBunk_Moreland wrote:Play him as an outside mid.LTN16 wrote:Play him as the sub

Re: I hop ethey do.
Membrey needs to come in this week.
This is a game we can win.
We should field our best team.
Maybe give Holmes a trot in a game we can't win like R23 against West Coast.

Re: I hop ethey do.
Membrey should be rewarded for a good effort at VFL, and as we have issues kicking a reasonable score, we need to keep working on the forward setups. Holmes is mobile for a big guy and could just come off the bench and alternate with Hickey in the forward line/ ruck and I would rather blood new players in a game we have an outside chance to win rather than see them clobbered by a power team.

Re: I hop ethey do.
Membrey definitely needs to come in. Our forward line just isn't working/kicking goals.
I'm actually starting to think Longer is going to struggle for a game next year, if he can't get the going forward aspect of his game going. Yes he's a good tap ruckman but that's all he is at the moment. I've been told by people in the know, that Jason actually has all the other ruckman covered in the tap out department, it's only his around the ground awareness that is stopping him getting a senior game but obviously from all reports, that gap is closing fast. I think next year, two ruckman will come back into vogue but they must be able to rest forward and kick goals. Hickey has shown he can do it. Billy hasn't and I think if Jason gets a run at it, Billy could well be playing a lot of footy for Sandy next year. What Billy does have is time on his side so hopefully it's something that will develop. Competition for spots only helps the cause.

Re: I hop ethey do.
IF Holmes is to play and IF he hasn't totally earned it with his performances at Sandy, then it will be mainly for publicity & marketing and for the feel good value (both Jason's and the fan's).Enrico_Misso wrote: Maybe give Holmes a trot in a game we can't win like R23 against West Coast.
Nothing at all wrong with that. Nothing.
But IF that is indeed the case, then it simply has to be either this week against the Cats or next week against the Swans. At Etihad; at our home and for the benefit of the majority of our members and supporters
Unless it's 100% performance based it would be a total waste to do it at Subiaco.

So we are just giving guys a game for publicity? Have we really sunk that low? We didn't do it to Walsh and Im glad for that. I hope he gets game because he is at least very close to the the best 22 and no one else younger and more deserving is missing out.

Re: I hop ethey do.
Holmes kicked 1.2 on the weekend, and it seems that he has shots at goal in many Sandy games.
Longer looks totally lost as a forward.
Maybe they'll want to give Holmes a taste of seniors footy to see how his ruck work compares with the others at senior level, and to see whether he can replicate his Sandy shots at goal.
I don't see that there's much to lose by giving him a game.

Re: I hop ethey do.
I dunno about that but at this time of year is the only time really that games can be given without really being earned (think of all the retirement games we will see from everywhere)plugger66 wrote:Dr Spaceman wrote:IF Holmes is to play and IF he hasn't totally earned it with his performances at Sandy, then it will be mainly for publicity & marketing and for the feel good value (both Jason's and the fan's).Enrico_Misso wrote: Maybe give Holmes a trot in a game we can't win like R23 against West Coast.

with regards to Walsh when he was going around the club had other priority's this time of year I think some of the footy rules kinda get bent with the eye to the future the club may want to build on the excitement the big fella will bring heading into a period where we don't have a game each week to keep people talking bout us ... maybe the club will need this period to take a look at some players to see where their future lies.. maybe the club will wrap some guys in wool with an eye for next year ... who knows but if ever there is a time to break away from the tried and tested "pick the best team available" its about now ...

My point being regardless of why he is selected there is a publicity angle to it.plugger66 wrote:Dr Spaceman wrote:IF Holmes is to play and IF he hasn't totally earned it with his performances at Sandy, then it will be mainly for publicity & marketing and for the feel good value (both Jason's and the fan's).Enrico_Misso wrote: Maybe give Holmes a trot in a game we can't win like R23 against West Coast.

And therefore we should make the most of it by playing him in front of his home crowd.

Re: I hop ethey do.
Holmes could come in for Longer, and Membrey for say Minchington or even Saunders.
I do think we are going out to win, but we are also trying guys to see if their worth pursuing.
If Holmes plays, I actually expect he will do well in general ruck work, winning plenty of taps and directing them very well.
Will probably struggle around the ground as it will take time to get use to the faster pace of the game at this level.
The way I see it, we don't have anything to lose, and probably more to gain in the long term.
