Although the scans revealed a slight strain, Cox said they did not show enough to rule Riewoldt out yet.
“It’s a very low grade injury and it’s certainly not enough to rule him out now,” Cox told SAINTS.com.au.
“We will let it settle and see how it responds. We’ll treat it accordingly and won’t take undue risks.
“The good news is there is nothing significant enough to rule him out today. It’s all about how he settles and they will test him later in the week.”
Riewoldt, 32, missed three games earlier this year with an injury to his left calf.

http://www.saints.com.au/news/2015-07-1 ... ldt-updateAlthough the scans revealed a slight strain, Cox said the club was set to continue it's terrible approach to managing calf injuries.
The club famously prevented Lenny Hayes from reaching 300 AFL games by letting him return early from an injury that is notoriously easy to re-injure by returning too early.
Cox said that the club were too scared to insist that Riewoldt sit out this week to ensure that their star Captain was available for their tough end of the season."Yeah we're probably expecting him to tear it properly in the first quarter and then he'll miss anywhere from 4-7 weeks... but hopefully he is available for our last two matches against Sydney & West Coast."
In what is becoming somewhat a tradition, Cox said the club were prepared to let senior players put their own personal circumstance above the club… Leigh Montagna missed a month of football by returning too early in round one this year.
Riewoldt, 32, missed three games earlier this year with an injury to his left calf (old man injury) but the club would not rule him out this week, even with a scan showing a fresh tear.
Cox also refused to concede that Sam Gilbert was not actually a "fast healer" despite the fact that the important defender hasn't managed to play 10 games in a season since 2012, "he's just been incredibly unlucky" Said Cox.

NICK Riewoldt is expected to be fit to play against Melbourne in round 17, but will first have to pass a fitness test on Thursday.
St Kilda’s skipper was visibly hampered late in Sunday’s 16-point loss
to Richmond, not due to any soft tissue calf complaint but rather a cut to his leg that occurred earlier in the game.
“Nick obviously got through the game ok after going in with a bit of a calf strain,” Head Physiotherapist Andrew Wallis told SAINTS.com.au.
“Just prior to half-time he copped an accidental studding to the leg on that same calf from an opponent. He’s pulled up really well and we will do what we did last week and test him.”
“If he gets through training on Thursday then he will be available for selection."

Re: Recovery List 2015
Dempster out--
- See more at: http://www.saints.com.au/news/2015-08-1 ... 0QJZi.dpufST KILDA is highly likely to regain Shane Savage and Luke Dunstan this week, while Paddy McCartin will also be available for selection after missing round 20 with soreness.
Savage (hip) was sidelined last week and Luke Dunstan (calf), trained fully on Tuesday.
“Shane Savage and Luke Dunstan will both hopefully be back this week from their respective injuries,” head physio Andrew Wallis told SAINTS.com.au.
“Luke had a bit of a calf injury but he trained fully today. Shane had a hip pointer and he certainly trained well today also.
“We expect them to get through training on Thursday and be available for selection.”
ROUND 21: Saints Premier Lounge
Unfortunately the news is not so good for Sean Dempster, whose unbroken run of 59 games has come to an end due to a broken nose sustained when he ran back with the flight of the ball on Saturday against North Melbourne.
Dempster played out the match and is expected to return in time to face his former team, Sydney, in round 22.
