Re: Match Thread Saints v Demons @ MCG
Well I will admit I was wrong. I thought Paddy looked lost in the first half and that he wasn't ready for this level.
In the second half I thought he looked really good taking a number of strong grabs.

Plenty worse than him today.#gosaintas wrote:Schneider should be subbed off at halftime and never play again. There's just no point in gifting him any more games. End the experiment of reinventing him as a midfielder.

He was well beaten in the first half but his second half was excellentGoose is king wrote:perfectionist wrote:Must be two games Saints v Demons going on. Billy Longer has easily been the best ruckman on the ground.
Seriously?
Gawn with double the hit outs and three more possessions
Longer won that third quarter though. Well done longer back it up now

Re: Match Thread Saints v Demons @ MCG
Not doing the direct comparison players based on Ruck and Forward positions, just saying that we don't need two rucks generally. Longer is the better tap ruckman and has provided pressure and tackles. I didn't see the tackling and pressure being quite the same by Hickey when forward or previously as a ruckman. Neither kick many goals.Sobraz wrote:How do you think Longer would go permanent forward, like Hickey, played out of position.kalsaint wrote:Longer better tap ruckman than Hickey and generally has put good pressure on contests in the middle. Hickey was trialed as a forward but didn't score enough. He did some good things but didn't creative enough opportunities and was less able to maintain forward pressure. Membrey was the better selection there. I f Billy is injured now maybe its time for Hickey but if not Billy should stay as the #1 choice ruck.stjay wrote:Also...He may well improve but there are others who, in the meantime, play his spot more effectively.Sobraz wrote:Seeing potential is one thing. The Fireman wrote:maybe he sees potential as I do.Sobraz wrote:Been smashed all year bar 2 or so games.Goose is king wrote:Longer needs to lift he's getting smashed.
The only real baffling aspect of Richos coaching is his constant Longer selection.
Just don't get it.
Unless it poised toward a trade. I'd be happy to get back what we paid for him.
Actually improving is another.
There's a strong argument to be made that Longer isn't any better at all than last year.
Meanwhile, if he has potential, what the he'll has Gawn got. Very similar in all departments except ability.
Cannot judge Hickey in his games as a forward.
Team balance is critical when assessing the forwards needs. Roo, Paddy, Bruce, Membrey mean the forwards don't need more height as a rule. Perhaps we could use 2 rucks against bigger sides with one going down back or drifting forward at times.
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

Goddard and Paddy Mac look like they can really add something to this team, very promising.
Sinclair also showed his worth, in terms of impact per possession he would be close to our most dangerous player.

bit worried about the Longer criticism ..starting to think some of our supporters are a bit out of touch.
I used to think our supporters were a cut above when it came to footy nous .
anyways I think I have a new fav.......J Stevens has had me for a long time now but I am feeling some man love for Dempster.

Gilbert looks much better away from defence these last two weeks. Wing is as far back as he should go. Paddy starting to look like he belongs and liking what we've seen from Goddard. Sinclair looking good too. Templeton needs to play 100 mins. Good win.

Big Paddy has next to no defensive side to his game due to what you can only assume is a lack of tank, but he doesn't get beaten in a contest. Just stands his ground and always brings it to ground. Strong lump of a lad. Maybe Hawkins like in the body.

Time for Lee to get a game in the backline. Let's have a look at him.

Who gets dropped? Does he even deserve a game? No way he will play next week unless there is injury.
