Metro Trains and Yarra Trams

Post: # 1564740Post ozrulestrace »

The works continue.....

Go to www.metrotrains.com.au for the various lines and various times and dates including the Sandringham line having a "vegetation clearing day" until 7 10PM on Sunday.

Yarra Trams has hit the tram track works around Flinders Street

Route 35, 70 & 75 - Tram improvement work - Saturday 18 to Saturday 25 July

As part of the modernisation of Melbourne's tram network, Yarra Trams and Public Transport Victoria (PTV) will be constructing a level access platform stop on Flinders Street at the corner of Russell Street. Track maintenance will also be carried out during the platform construction period.

But for anyone using the trams around the Stadium check www.yarratrams.com.au for just in case.

Why the hell do they need to stop the trains to spray a few weeds!!!!!
Surely they can lean on their shovels for a minute every twenty to let a train go through.

Because we live in Australia and that is too easy and sensible

No Sandy trains due to "weed spraying".
So drove up to catch a Frankenstein train.
As we approached the station around 3:20 there were four groups of StKilda supporters walking away from the station.
A lady informed us that no trains were running.
So we had to drive in.

Do we have the most incompetent train system in the western world?

I don't know about the rest of you but the trains were very efficient at 3/4 time.

I just wonder how many fans who tried to get there by train on the Sandy and Frankston lines gave up.

The crowd could have been 50k!

I have really given up in this Sunday twilight rubbish. We have young kids who have to get up for school the next day, we live down on the Mornington Peninsula, and the train system seems to be in a perpetual state of "undergoing maintenance"....(read, crappy schedules and platform nightmares at Spencer St Station).

I checked out our upcoming fixtures and all I see are interstate games or late Sunday games. I think it's a bloody miracle that the admin of our club have managed to bring major sponsors on board with the fixture and free-to-air TV coverage they have to work with.......

46K did last week. If people can get there for that game then they can get there 5 times a year. Big deal if you kid gets to bed at 9.30 5 times a year. I do agree if it is much later but surely kids will live if they have 5 or so night at 9.30. I certainly know late nights hasn't had to much effect on my kid.

For what it's worth Enrico, in the last survey about the game I did make mention that whilst it's not the club or AFL's fault. the trains and all the delays etc must be impacting on all crowds.

The AFL has to get in as a lobbyist to start mpushing for better services as I think any train that turns up after a game is euphemistically called a "football special" and there had to be at least one thousand people on the train I left on Sunday night which means it's over its passenger limits.

Plugger, yet again this is not about you. This is about parents who are reluctant to have their kids out late a night before school and if someone lives in Frankston or Pakenham they'd be pushing it too get home before 930. I travel to Caulfield and driving home from there and I'm lucky if I get home before 830. One night it took 50 minutes just to get to Caulfield double its normal travel time.

Friday night games have an even bigger impact on crowds-kids have sports on Saturday morning and seniors are reluctant to travel on the train late at night.

Just sayin'

Good news for the game this week is that the weeding on the Sandringham line is completed so it is safe for the trains to run.
Bad news is that on the Frankston line the trains will only be running between Moorabbin and the city due to trackwork near Mordy.

At least with MCG games you don't need to worry about the Loop.

Problem could be hypothermia if it's max 11 degrees and wet!

Why bother - honestly. Last Sunday there was an unscheduled interruption to services on the Frankston line again - from Mordialloc to Moorabbin with insufficient buses to ferry travellers between the two stations. Sad, pathetic joke of a transport system.

This is spot on. I have given up on catching trains to the footy on the weekend - I used to think it was just Sundays, but it's Saturdays as well. In real cities around the world they do these works late at night when people don't need to use them. Metro need to get their act together.

A few articles in The Age about infrastructure issues re the trains.

Several billion still needs to be spent to fix it. That's not Metro's domain - they don't own the infrastructure, the government does.

Who is to blame?

All state governments from the late 80's to the mid naughties. Labor started the problem as the state was broke when Jeff took over.

Here we are a week on and I think the tram works along Flinders Street are still going

www.yarratrams.com.au

as for www.metrotrains.com.au I think Beno88 is correct re the Frankston trains but it will also pay to check the Glen Waverley lines information as well.
