Re: Saints recall McCartin
I like the look of how this week's team has finalised.
Membery was a bit unlucky, but I think that a win is very possible at Etihad.

The way I see it this side isn't designed to win. Obviously they don't want to lose but I see this game as being about experience to youngsters. The side on paper isn't as good as last week but it is exactly what I thought would happen. Give kids a chance in games we probably cant win.

I actually agree, the whole year the club has made statements about playing guys like Goddard and Mccartin more and there is few games left.plugger66 wrote:Junction Oval wrote:I like the look of how this week's team has finalised.

Although on paper I dont think we took a massive hit on list quality from last week with Membery Ross and Schneider the ones omitted.
Could be a bit of a structure change though that might throw the game off a bit.

Probably used the wrong word. We have picked a side based on probably thinking we couldn't win anyway. It is designed to give some young kids a go in a game we probably wont win no matter who played. That is exactly how I would have done it even though I didn't think we would.
Probably sounds like an oxymoron again but I know what I mean. Others can guess or ignore the crap I just wrote.

I'm happy McCartin will get another go as it's not like Membrey has been great so a simple swap works for me
Templeton for Schnider is also good so long as Eli has earned it and it appears he has

Re: Saints recall McCartin
Such a shame that Members and Ross followed up their best games for the club with stinkers last week. The right call was made to drop them but I hope they don't lose too much confidence from it and can force their way back into the seniors.

Re: Saints recall McCartin
Will be no surprise is Roo doesnt play, I would expect Membery to replace him.
Would like to see Acres playing, I reckon he'll be good.
As a replacement for Schneider, I'd like to see Murdoch, intuition tells me he could be good

Re: Saints recall McCartin
yea , that works.
... the odds of the win are low so give some kids a go.
though i would like to note , i was a tad ... ummm , minorly discombobulated
coz my first thought was ... What !!!
'Now' , we are picking and choosing when we play to win
& when we 'play' to lose.
(which i thought was a vehemently expressed NO GO zone of the
Dont Even Think About Tanking Crowd)
but of course , the second 'play' to win bit is admin inspired
not player inspired.

Re: Saints recall McCartin
I think we mainly lose legs, McCartin and Goddard just don't have the running ability or the tank of the guys they're replacing. I expect us to get overrun in the last quarter.Griggsy wrote:I actually agree, the whole year the club has made statements about playing guys like Goddard and Mccartin more and there is few games left.plugger66 wrote:The way I see it this side isn't designed to win. Re: Saints recall McCartin
I don't know about this "not playing or picking to win" business.
Our forward line looks very potent. Especially with Rooey in the side (although I am not convinced that will happen) McCartin could easily get off the chain and kick a few.
Hope he manages to build a bit of confidence.
Hard to say at this stage there are any massive "outs" for us.
I think the balance of the side looks good although clearly the Tige's are favourites.

Re: Saints recall McCartin
Well I was happy if we won 5 games, mission accomplished. Good luck to Hugh hope he has a good debut and we'll see if McCartin has learned a bit since we last saw him. Think he really needs a goal in this game. Eli can play, let's hope he can generate that same enthusiasm he had early last year.
Think of me long enough to make a memory.

Re: Saints recall McCartin
A show us what you've got game for a few players.
Particularly Goddard and McCartin.
A game that allows the club to assess these players development.
If the players can win this game well and good.
But a competitve loss is not a bad outcome given our need to force Essendon above us on the ladder to improve our draft pick, from 6 down to 5.
With 8 games left in the season the club needs to see how all players running around at Sandrinigham are developing to make informed delisting and contract decisions.

Re: Saints recall McCartin
if we lose nearly all our games for the remainder of the year, it will erase lots of that positivity lately, say we only won one more game out of 8!! I'm backing the changes made to actually make our side better! McCarting was the no.1 pick for a reason, he should be better than membrey, and I rate membrey! Eli showed plenty last year and i'm not surprised it took him time to find confidence in his arm again, that sprial frature and big op would have really shook his confidence. Goddard, from all reports he is a very tough and hard it big framed youngster with good hands albeit a bit short on running power at this stage, but with gilbert roberton and dempster all being pretty quick runnnig defenders he should slot in nicely and hopefully give better output than Delaney!! IMO try and win as many games as possible, winnng is the best medicine!!ace wrote:A show us what you've got game for a few players.

If roo plays the paddy gets the third defender, which is a good result for him. Maybe Batchelor who's listed at FB, with rance and Chaplin going to the first 2. Will be interesting to see how those 3 go together.
Might see Goddard on Hampson in their fwd line, that'd be a gentle start with vickery and Griffiths out.
