Happy with that; see upside for both, and Roberton has been tremendous when fit this year.

.Rebuilding was a scary word at St Kilda, but players are now "so excited" about the future of the club, Dylan Roberton says.
The defender did not think twice about staying with the Saints when offered a contract until the end of 2017.
Fellow defender Cameron Shenton also secured his medium-term future at St Kilda, signing on until the end of next year.

It was perfect timing of Roberton, whose partner Amy is expecting their third child this week.
The pair just bought a bigger house for their growing brood, so Roberton said their families were relieved and proud when his contract was renewed

Re: Roberton & Shenton re-sign
2nd shift media unit have come in
http://www.saints.com.au/news/2015-06-1 ... uo-sign-on
Coach Alan Richardson said securing Roberton and Shenton’s signatures was another step to building St Kilda’s future.
“Dylan and Cameron have continued the positive momentum around our players committing to the club’s future – they are confident that we are heading in the right direction and want to be part of that,” he said.
“This follows on from Jack Steven committing to a five-year deal at the start of the year and our Saints Future Fest campaign last year under which saw 19 of our young players put pen to paper.”
Richardson said the continued improvement of St Kilda’s exciting, young group of players had been the highlight of the 2015 season and that Roberton and Shenton were good examples of that.
“Both players have worked their way up to become regular, valuable parts of our defensive group and we are delighted to have them commit to us by signing contract extensions.”

Re: Roberton & Shenton re-sign
You can rule out shents being in danger at the end of the year. Might put the wind up a few of the others at the fringe.

Shenton is better than people imagine in today's footy. Tall guy who can run and kicks it ok. Not easily replaced.

Re: Roberton & Shenton re-sign
One year deal for Shenton about right. Has some good attributes but plenty of area for improvement.
Very happy to sign Robbo, back to his 2013 form and just a great addition to the backline.
Tick tick

Has a dip but his kicking is very ordinary and see him as making up the numbers at Sandy if we are to improve next year.
Jack Newnes happy to be a Saint !!!! PS and to hit a target !!!

Re: Roberton & Shenton re-sign
Well he kicks it ok most of the time. He is prone to some WTF moments (as are Gilbo and Geary).
I doubt Shenton is on huge coin. You cant have a list of 40 stars. You are going to have 10-15 foot soldiers.
Shenton is a foot solider but is a pretty resilient, reliable bloke. I ca't remember him being injured. Will still be a good squad player for a couple of years.
As for Roberton. Just turning 24. Has a good 5-6 seasons ahead of him.
Should play 100 games as a Saint and get up to 150 career games.

Roberton is probably a classier player than Shents but both deserve their extensions. Shelton is holding up well seeing he was drafted as a mis sized half forward and has had to become a rebound back and has under 20 games of AFL experience. He looks pretty good considering. Roberto had about 28 possessions in his last game so has some serious scope for improvement and never really makes a mistake.

Re: Roberton & Shenton re-sign
Well done to both lads...Roberton in particular has made amug out of me. I had him all but written off during last year. Never rated him that highly at Freo and find it hard to warm to players who have played a decent amount at other clubs...but he has certainly been a very solid contributor this year so hats off to him.
As for Shenton - Agree with the general senitments on here, he's a solid player with plenty of upside given his limited games experience. He is pretty injury free and appears to be becoming more at home in the AFL arena...still does a few absolute clangers per game, but i'm seeing less and less of this which is great. He could go on improving, like a lot of our lower profile players, they all will look better in a better performed side, just like guys Milera and Saad did in 2012 vs 2013. It's who can take their opporutinty weather it be by injury or form and grab it with both hands...

Re: Roberton & Shenton re-sign
Roberton has been super this year, which is a relief after last year. Love his game.
While I'm not completely sold on the Shentonator, I have no problems with him getting an extension, rapt for him personally. He's probably pretty fortunate that Ray & Gilbert have missed most of the year, but he's doing very well for someone with only a few games experience.
There seems to be a lot of competition for only a few half-back, medium defender roles… Newnes, Acres, McKenzie & Webster are the most important cogs of the future IMO… then Savage, Roberton are playing well… we have Ray & Gilbert who are the better players for now, but we probably need to look past at least one of them next year.
Saunders, Wright, Lee, all waiting for a game too.

I think the clangers are over stated because he was a playing the lose role running out of defence last year and was very clean. This year he is given a lot deeper and manned up roles so is panicking and sending the ball into congested areas or trying just to bomb long to a wing where it will get cut off or get the odd deliberate OOB. He is a decent kick but can panic when an option doesn't present. Joey nearly lost that last game doing the same thing. There seems to be a problem getting guys to find space for him. He seems to be told to clear it if the options don't present. He seems to have Gwilts role from last year and Gwilt was doing the same thing as him so I think it's structural rather than a necessary character flaw.
