Hopefully he is o.k.
It's a serious reality check of what exactly are the important things in life.
His family must have been beside themselves.
Fiercely proud but I'll bet they'll be glad when he retires a champion and they get to proudly enjoy his company for a further 60 years !
I love his passion and loyalty but sometimes think he is too committed for his own welfare.
Nick's the sort of guy you'd want backing you up in the trenches.

Re: word on Nick! no serious damage 5.00 pm
It is quite normal after concussion to want to keep the patient for an extended period of observation just to ensure that no swelling develops. As the brain is confined by the skull swelling can do nasty things including cuasing death. The more severe the knock, the more cautious they will be.howlinwolf wrote:My guess is.. He's had a potentially serious head injury. Therefore can't fly today and the logical, conservative option is to stay overnight for observation.saintspremiers wrote:If he's pretty good then why is he in hospital overnight? That's unusual for concussion isn't it?tony74 wrote:Don't quite know what has been stated in the media but he's pretty good. Are they sure there isn't any bruising or small bleeds on the brain of any degree?
Sorry if I sound a worry wort.
The first time my wife concussed herself was after she knocked her head against a hard timber floor after losing her balance. This was about dinner time and then after going by ambulance to hospital as a precaution as she lapsed in and out of consciousness several times, they would not leave her leave till after midnight.
My nephew was king hit with a cowards punch, went home to bed and unfortunately never woke up. Swelling caused irreparable damage.
My wife then had a bad cycling accident (She had no short-term memory for several weeks. ie If I walked her down to the cafe or kitchen, she could not find her way back. If asked a question, she could often not even remember being asked the question, let alone the answer), had minor swelling and was monitored 24/7 for several weeks.
So there is no one size fits all answer. If they suspect concussion may have been bad enough to possibly cause bleeding of the brain, and hence swelling, they will monitor till they are sure that no severe swelling has occurred.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....

Without being rude how would you know he spoke to his wife? And those other posters having a go at Nick are pathetic but don't have a go at a poster or call them some sort of soft name because one mod will give you a warning. I see about 10 on this thread but fail to see any actual warnings. Inconsistent. Anyway have a go at our captain because that's ok but don't call silly posters soft names. Some of you posters need to wake up.

It was actually a terrible attempt at a tackle by Nick. He appears to be quite rusty which is probably due to missing pre-season games and early season games.Jacks Back wrote:He's starting to resemble Jonathan Brown who unfortunately kept getting hurt.howlinwolf wrote:Hopefully he is o.k.

Riewoldt said he was already on the mend.
“I feel a lot better than did yesterday. I was well looked after overnight. I can’t remember much of (the incident). We will just go through the week and see how it pans out.”
Riewoldt, who suffered whiplash in Round 1 but not concussion, was subjected to a battery of tests on his head and brain on Saturday night.

Wishing Nick all the best
Heartening to see Nick striding through the airport.
Nick is an all-time favorite Sainter of mine (and dads') so I was really pleased to see him simply walking around.
I hope and trust that Nick is getting all the due diligence he can receive. As much as I like to see him in the team for his sake it has to be safety first.
I cant help thinking of that 'toepoke' he produced to get us past the Bulldogs in a prelim and put us in a grand final.
Always appreciative of the big hearted fella.
Thanks Nick for all you have done for the St.Kilda Football Club.
G O N I C K !
G O S A I N T S !

While Riewoldt won't train on Tuesday, nor will he play against West Coast on Saturday, the Saints say he hasn't said anything about how the latest knock – that left him in hospital overnight – has affected his mindset.
"We had a discussion the other morning about how many knocks he's had in the past and yes, he's a big player and he's had a long career," football manager Jamie Cox said on Tuesday.
"But really, now we rely heavily on the medical advice.
"There's nothing certainly in what we've seen or anything that the medics have given us to suggest it's a concern.
"Nick himself I know is not thinking that way, so we need now to rely on our medics, and his health and welfare will be No.1.
"When he gets the appropriate medical clearance he'll be back playing."

Re: word on Nick! Home Sunday-
Did anyone happen to see the start of "On The Couch" last night? I caught the latter part of the early conversation, which seemed to be about Brown comparing Rooey's concussion history to his own, and then running through what Rooey would need to consider if he wanted to play on.
I'm not suggesting any merit, but I am wondering if that was the tenor of the conversation from the start, and what basis they used to head down that path.

I hadn't realised he'd had 5 serious concussions in 5 years.
He needs footy right now, it may sadly not be mutual.

as BJ said
Nick would thank for concern but not to be written off
I feel it may have been Browny belatedly realizing he should have listened but his were actual fractures,
