Is it our biggest comeback ever?
In 1937 against Hawthorn, we were 55 points down at quarter time and won by 13 points.
In 1975 against Richmond, we were 48 points down at half time and won by 2 goals.
In 1994 (Mothers Day) against Sydney, we were 38 points down at three quarter time and won by a point. That game was famous for another reason (Plugger V Peter Caven). Also, 11 minutes into the last quarter, we were 48 points down.
Today, we were 49 points down at half time and won by 7 points. That's a record for us for a comeback from the half time break and the equal third highest margin ever for all teams. Alas, the highest is 52 points by Collingwood against us in 1970. Perhaps we should have let the Dogs get another goal before half time. We still would have won by a point.
We were 55 points down 4.5 minutes into the third quarter today. Records for margins within quarter are not recorded in AFL stats, only in the never forgetting minds of diehard supporters. I can confidently say that the Saints have never been further behind so late in a game which we still won.
So is it our biggest comeback ever? I'd say it's pretty close. It's either the Swans game of 1994 or this one.

It is a landmark win for the club and this group of players.
Vital.
It is the best win the club has had since the 2009 Preliminary final, easily.

Cannot speak highly enough about this.
That first half pressure was ridiculous.
Yet they absorbed it, and went pow.
Led by our younger men.
Woohoo

We will look back at this game. Just like the Hawks loss under Timmy defined an era, so will this.

Can't beat the '94 comeback ... 49 points in about 18 minutes ... Plugger kicking eleven and
trying to decapitate the cheer squad ... even though the Swans were no good and there was
no crowd ...

Best win ever. Underrated by others.
Re: Is it our biggest comeback ever?
Very true, dogs were frenetic in the first half, the fact that we were close at quarter time was a good sign. Happy to trade Qs 3&4 for Q2.SainterK wrote:Cannot speak highly enough about this.

Re: Is it our biggest comeback ever?
I was at that game against Colonwood at Victoria Park. 14 years old and wore a full beer can in tha back of the head. We absolutely flogged them in the first half with Daryl Griffiths starring but Colonwood got a record number of free kicks in the second half to sate the home-side ferals on the terraces. Absolute disgrace.perfectionist wrote:In 1937 against Hawthorn, we were 55 points down at quarter time and won by 13 points.

Re: Is it our biggest comeback ever?
if we were 55 points down vs the mayflowers back in 1937 at quarter time, it must have been one hell of a breeze that we were kicking against that day! Is anyone old enough to remember? Is anyone old enough to remember and still awake at this time of night too?
its time to make a name for yourself like you've never made before!

the 1975 game vs the tigers was my first saints game and dad was a tigers man, but I became hooked on the saints due to that comeback win!
