Out (If injured/sore) Savage and Schneider
Might be a good time to experiment playing Roo as a permanent wingman?
Keep the current 3 talls (Bruce, Hickey, Membrey)
and have Roo as the marking option on the wing/flank from the backline.
Might just 'open' the Bulldogs up.
I really hope not. We lose another midfielder if we do that.

Im talking about Rooy playing on the wing. By the way Schneider has played as a mid all year.

Roo and Joey are certain ins. I'm glad it is the coaching staff making the decision on the outs. i wouldn't like to be doing that.

Re: Guess this weeks ins and outs
Tough call on the outs this week as just about everyone earned his keep last week. Membrey may be one of the unlucky ones, I fear, as people fear we would be going in too tall.
I feel Riewoldt must play well up the ground. We are trying to develop a forward line for the future and are making some progress with Bruce, Membrey and Lonie, etc and Hickey last week. We don't want a return to the kick-it-to-Roo mentality, do we? Hard way to kick a winning score.

Re: Guess this weeks ins and outs
There is a lot of knee jerk reaction here about dropping Schneider.
Ok he missed a couple of shots and because of it being late in the match we could have won if he had kicked them.
However, he played a very solid game generally and he wasn't the only one to miss shots with Lonie missing three gettable goals as well as Membery, Billings and others.
Misses in the first quarter are just as damaging but not remembered the same.
I think that Membery and Sinclair will probably make way for Roo and Joey unless there is an injury we are unaware of.
It's tough on Sinclair but I think McKenzie did enough to stay in the team, and Acres deserves a full match.

One year will be our year

I don't think he'll be dropped this week.longtimesaint wrote:There is a lot of knee jerk reaction here about dropping Schneider.
But you have to remember he's a rookie so he's only available for selection at all because of injuries. Same with Saad and Sinclair. With the rapid shrinking of the injury list, in the next couple of weeks at least one, maybe two of them will need to be demoted. Saad is obvious because he's already in the twos, but that leaves a decision between Schneids and Sincs. Which way will it go?

Re: Guess this weeks ins and outs
I think lots of people were surprised Schneider was kept on at all. Some of us would rather he was dropped before the kids, unless there are injuries or some of the kids need a break. His performances in front of goal have been crap for years. If he is playing a midfield role then he doesn't get enough ball. If he is a forward, he doesn't score. If he's there because we need the experience, then Joey and Roo are back.longtimesaint wrote:There is a lot of knee jerk reaction here about dropping Schneider.

Pretty tough to find people to drop for a change.

After the Carlton game there were ten or fifteen who could have been dropped. Every chance the same will be true again by Saturday night.#gosaintas wrote:Pretty tough to find people to drop for a change.

They did the right thing after the carlton game and dropped the ball butchers. Just Geary now to go.
We have a full list now and the shentons of this world are hopefully no chance to play unless we are struck down with injuries again.

I have since reviewd all the games played so far. Geary has more plusses than minuses.#gosaintas wrote:They did the right thing after the carlton game and dropped the ball butchers. Just Geary now to go.

Yeah he does and I'm not calling for his head. He will be in trouble though as this team improves because he isn't improving and being the worst kick in the side puts him in danger.

Does ability trump effort, or effort ability.

We had something like 9 guys who won centre clearances on Sunday.

I can't remember the last time we played the Dogs and Dale Morris didn't play on Riewoldt. I'd love to see him start deep just to put some pressure on their defenders.

Confirmed Acres and Membrey for Roo and Joey.

Re: Guess this weeks ins and outs
I can see why Acres is out; the old last one in first one out rule when all else fails. He's had a little taste. Will that push McKenzie into the green vest I wonder?
As for Membrey, he did a lot of good things on Sunday, but he'll get chances down the line. Can't really complain that he's more worthy of his spot than the brave Captain. He might grumble that Hickey should have made way, and he's got a point. I guess they want to have a look at the 3 pronged Bruce Riewoldt Hickey set up. Good defence to try it on, but as is pointed out, we trade height for mobility, so let's hope the inside 50s are good and the marks stick.
Lonie, Sinclair, Dunstan, Billings and Schneider seem like the next closest to the out door, although I can't imagine Schneider made the coaches too unhappy last week, accuracy in front of goal notwithstanding. The other four are locks for a good few years at the club if they carry on as they have started, but are young and will need a rest. Newnes is past the raw rookie stage now, and will be pumped full of games to see if he can take it to the next stage, and to give him the experience he'll need to be a useful leader.
This Year's ins and outs
Next to come in, Sandringham spotters? Here's my rough assessment, based purely on 2nd hand information and guesswork:
I'm tipping Wright will be back soon enough, as will Membrey and Acres - probably in and out of the side through the year as we assess their long term worth. Eli and Minch must be looked at eventually, and maybe we'll have a look at big Spencer if one of Bruce, Riewoldt or Hickey go out. Not a make or break year for any of those guys, except maybe Minch, so lets hope he gets a decent chance.
Ray and Gilbert's experience will be invaluable when they regain match fitness and I can't see them being held out the side for too long. Conversely, if their form lets them down and they get dropped, they'll find it hard to get back in this year.
Curren, Saad and Shenton are probably the eternal emergency squad members, with Simpkin as the last resort.
Murdoch and Saunders might get chances if they blitz their VFL games.
Lee is being given time to prove himself as a backman, how he goes there will figure in how soon we see him in red white and black. They could have brought him in when Roo went down but rushed in big Paddy instead, so they clearly don't trust him up forward for now.
The projects McCartin Goddard Holmes Pierce and Payne will be lucky if they get one (more) game this season, not because they aren't good of course, just cos they are new and big.
Ross will come in soon after regaining match fitness, maybe Dunstan and he will change places, Markworth (I can't remember if he's out for the season or not) might be a chance for a game or two at the end of the year as a nice positive message when we're entrenched in the bottom 3 and Siposs, well let's just hope that he can get fit again first.
Probably all nonsense, right?
