Enough is enough
The club reads this board. It's time you took a stand against this extraordinary bias against our club. Our games are practically unwatchable such is the handicap we are going against each week. It's there for everyone too see, even mates who hate us have been texting me about it the last fortnight....they are only just catching on.
At least make a stand for the members, because this is pathetic, and to sit back silently and cop it is even more pathetic

Sorry. Disagree. We are dishing up undisciplined rubbish and deserve to get pinged. Instead of trying to rough Murphy up off the ball, Geary and co need to worry about just beating him one on one.

You can't dive on the ball, sit on it with a cup of tea and wait for the umpire to blow the whistle
Re: Enough is enough
What we need to do is be better at playing football, then we'll win on the scoreboard. Concentrating on the umpiring is pretty soft.
Re: Enough is enough
At half time we were well behind in possessions and well ahead in tackles, that suggests maybe we were second to the ball.jonesy wrote:Yep,so we were second to the ball in the first half?

54 frees paid last night, at last look 44 today prob more I stopped looking
Just watch how many are paid today
it will be lucky to be 30. And its not hawthorn and freo playing its 2 teams that are there abouts but the whistle will be away

You might want to look up stats on the free kick differential for games played in Perth and Adelaide and rethink that comment.saintjake wrote:Shut up. Stop being a baby. The AFL isn't biased for God sake.

The umpiring for the past few years has been blatantly biased. The question is why.saintjake wrote:Shut up. Stop being a baby. The AFL isn't biased for God sake.

The time is coming to very publically question this, however it's always going to look better off the back of a win rather than a loss.
Either that or we weren't reading the bit in the rule book that says "Get in first and you get free kicks".

Umpire performance and team performance are two different subjects.
Yes the team was crap. That doesn't mean the umps weren't crap too. Been going on to long, needs investigation.

Spot on,two different topics. This is not a knee jerk today rant(I think we were in front when I wrote this?),this go's on virtually every week.Kate wrote:Umpire performance and team performance are two different subjects.

The usuals say ' well you need to be better than the umpires then you won't notice them...etc etc"..Really? We just want a level playing field, that's all we ask,as a club, just a level playing field to sit back and watch our kids. Clearly we are not. Therefore to add to the frustration of watching an inconsistent young list,we have to put up with a clear and biased unlevel playing field, and that for a professional sport is not good enough

Re: Enough is enough
First minute of second half, Geary coughs it up with a short kick out of defence - Carlton Goal
Shenton midway through the third goes short to a contested situation 40m out from goal. Shocking decision - result - Carlton goal
Lonie kick across goal but kicks too low and the ball is intercepted - Carlton goal
Last quarter, Shenton has the option to kick wide to the pocket to release a free player who has heaps of space in front of him to run. Instead goes super short to Billings who then chips it into a Carlton player's hands - goal

Re: Enough is enough
I think we need to do some work on how games are umpired. Other teams seem to adapt to changing interpretations a lot faster than us. Look at the game last night and today, we need to learn how to get the soft frees and how not to give them away. Umpires are paying frees to soft players. Initiate contact and then fall over equals free kick. No need to learn how to handball now, throwing the ball is allowed provided you are subtle. Diving is alive and well in footy, we just are not good enough at it.
If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you.

Try and keep on topic, this has nothing to do with the appalling standard of umpiring we are receiving.
Unless this was meant for the other upteen threads you could post in on our poor skills, list, etc etc

Re: Enough is enough
He didn't dive on it and Cripps held it in not Wright. Apart from those 2 errors you're spot on. Watch the replay. The same thing happened on numerous occasions before this with no frees paid. Similar to them throwing out the in the back rule today. Only paid one out of about ten that were Iidentical.saintjake wrote:8856brother wrote:Nathan Wright holding the ball. Re: Enough is enough
Ok. Well lets address your topic then Jonesy.
I thought the umpires were excellent today. Made a few errors, but the decisions in the third quarter that appeared to constantly go against us were ridiculously undisciplined acts by saints players. Were trying to rough Murphy up, were getting frustrated and taking it out on the man, and it cost us. The stats from the outset indicated that we were second to the ball all day, and that we were losing the contested ball. Indicates that we probably didn't deserve too many frees.

Re: Enough is enough
Who is going to become our Pendlebury(or Murphy or Sellwood or Priddis) for that matter. I know that we got sucked in today but stuff that is let go time and again is penalised immediately if it's against these type of guys. Maybe our blokes in the midfield are too young to cry to the umps enough yet.

Can I use you as a reference for some high end of town CEO jobs I might apply for then, I am clearly substandard, but I get the feeling you are very... 'generous' to spectaculary incompetent types

Enough is enough
The umpiring was terrible. The decisions against Longer in the first quarter were mind blowing. The holding the ball against Wright when Cripps didn't bother waiting for the ball before tackling was bizarre. Lots more as the game went on. But I'm not convinced that Everitt's shot hit the post.

Re: Enough is enough
For those of us who were there it was quite apparent the umpiring was not consistent. A good percentage of the frees we received were from out on the full. Armo probably wound them up further when he turned and held the ball up to the umpire to see if his mark would be paid. I would suggest that many others who went over will be equally disheartened about doing so again and it wasn't because of any lack of skills or endeavour by the players.
