First game at Moorabbin.

I was there that day,as a 8 year old,cant remember much of the game.But can recall the excitement of the crowd in the grandstand,it was the start of a new era

Lot of happy faces,especially my fathers,after years of disappointments they could see some light at the end of the tunnel

And we beat Collingwood, record Moorabbin attendance - also record for any ground except MCG and Waverley - i think 51,000
I went to the Heritage Museum during week and the photo of first game at Moorabbin is on display.

I was there.

13 years old with Dad and my brother and loved the Saints.

Lived in Moorabbin, now in Perth. And still love the Saints.

I was there too, also just 13 and with dad, my uncle and cousin. Fortunately, we had reserved seats in the stand, not far from the press box, I think J128-J131. I can certainly remember that we won by a goal (8.12 to.8 6) and, therefore, the fact that we took forever to get home to Oakleigh, was of little significance. It was onward and upward in those glory days.

I was there also (11 years old)
We had reserved seats in the new grandstand above what was to become the Animal Enclosure.
In the late 80's Plugger's family used to sit just In front of us (Row C/D) - including his sister unless she was 'on duty' - a police officer.

I recall our new recruit Bruce McMaster-Smith doing some nice work in the last quarter which aided us in winning that first game.

Aaah the memories of that first game at Moorbabbin, It was so exciting walking to the ground. The locals used to have signs up offering parking for cars in their front yards. They really packed the cars in. Can't recall how much it was as Dad paid but think it was something like 10 shillings for the afternoon's parking. Much cheaper than the car park at the ground. All that year Dad parked the car at the same house...... I think the street was called Luckins st or rd. We called it the Lucky street after the first match.

We used to stand behind the goals at the South Road end for the first season....as the years went on we got 'soft' and decided to have seats in the Grandstand. The view I admit of the game was much better up there.... but I still hanker to stand behind the goals at a footy match.
"Give me the child until it is 7 and I will give you the man/woman" so the Jesuit saying goes. As a family we stood behind the goals at the Junction Oval ever since I was about 6 or 7 years old........... so I was programed to 'stand behind the goal posts' at Moorabbin I s'pose!

I was a 12 yo at the game with my mates. Caught the train from Parkdale station. Wound up lying across the the Saint's reserves box. Big Carl tore the place apart. For a while he lived in Brownfield St Mordialloc, just up the road from me. I'm a Sandgroper now too. Been in WA for 40 years, but witnessed some awesome games at Moorabbin back in the 60s and early 70s. A game that truly stands out in my memory was in '68 (I think). We had to beat Geelong in the last game of the home and away season to make the finals. We did!!! Cowboy was magnificent. (Got clobbered by Geelong the next week in the first semi.) Another highlight was watching John McIntosh play. He had exquisite skills and composure. His son, Ashley, should have played for us and not the chooks.
Wonderful and all as it was to beat the 'Pies in our first game at Moorabbin, it comes in second compared to watching the Mighty Saints beat the 'Pies again in the '66 grand final. I sat adjacent to the goals in the old Richmond cricket members stand where Barry Breen curled to ball around the behind post. When the siren went the crowd went ballistic. Riding the old red rattler back to Parky station, was amazing. The feeling was euphoric !! Later that week, old codgers were quoted in the tabloids as saying they could die happily knowing the Saints had won a grand final! I'm now an old 'pa too. I wonder if they'll win another flag before I turn up my toe-nails??
