Support / sympathy in the right places- Commission

Post: # 1275498Post saintbrat »

we Join Essendon as having more than one commissioner supporting us.

SAM MOSTYN, 47
Supports St Kilda
Became the game's first female commissioner in 2005 after the game created an extra position to appoint her — frustrating some feminists. While the least knowledgeable in pure football terms of all the commissioners, this has not stopped her becoming a passionate advocate for, and mentor at, Greater Western Sydney. A key driver in Kevin Sheedy's appointment to the Giants, Mostyn is one of few commissioners who have attended their games, something she did regularly in 2012. Was highly respected in the Keating government as a communications policy adviser. A company executive, Mostyn has a strong background in corporate culture, which is something she is understood to have strong opinions on in terms of AFL head office.

PAUL BASSAT, 44
Supports St Kilda
With Goyder, the most recently appointed commissioner, selected from a panel that included club presidents David Smorgon (Western Bulldogs) and Rob Chapman (Adelaide). Bassat is regarded as something of a whiz kid having co-founded world-leading online employment business Seek. His appointment and accompanying multimedia skills were timely given head office's large-scale investment in its own AFL Media.

As her CV indicates, Mostyn has plenty on her plate. But footy has been her spectator sport of choice since her father used to traipse her to St Kilda games when she was a kid, so she still has a bit to give.

"I only do things I really, really love and have a deep passion for," she said. "I’m very good at being focused on the task at hand and with footy, I still find time to get to a lot of games, watch games on TV and follow as much footy as I can.

"It brings me great joy."

Can we have Seek as a sponsor when a commissioner is the head of the company?

Isn't that a conflict of interest?

(When has that ever been an issue in the AFL?)
