Mike Sheehan rates Dunstall better than Lockett!
Maybe he's getting the real thing confused with our one?
In his Top 50 of the past 25 years, the Top 5 is:
1. Carey
2. Yablett Jnr
3. Yablett Snr
4. Dunstall
5. Plugger
Rooey is in at 48 - a few spots below Kouta who is a good comparison.
Dunstall was a champion player in a champion team that helped his cause no end. Plugger for a lot of his time at the Saints was a lone champion doing it all his self.
No doubt the reason Plugger got Top 5 was due to his Sydney days on the mind of noddy.

Sheehan places a lot of weight on Premierships. My guess is that if Plugger played in 4 Premierships (like Dunstall did) he would be right at the top of that list !!
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

It's only one guy's opinion and in this case it is clearly a wrong opinion.
Anyway, these things are designed to create discussion and controversy as this, no doubt, will.
Lockett would rip Dunstall's head off, look down his neck, then calmly slot his head through the big sticks from 60 ... left foot and on the run. And post-high.
He'd do the same to Carey also, fine player though he was.

There is no way Gaz jnr is above Plugger as a player. Absurd. I like him now he's at the Suns but people forget he was a sulky bitch at the Cats sometimes. And he took a few years to become a star ( admittedly in a huge shadow of his dad). And playing the last few seasons in a new team has made him stand out more - he wouldn't have been any better if still at Geelong.

Gee I reckon its close. Gazza Jnr is certainly the best midfielder I have ever seen. I don't understand how the sulky stuff means anything but if it does Plugger would be about pick 132. You do realise his brownlow record at Geelong, don't you?

I think that would be completely untrue.

Everyone has an opinion. Mine, and many others, is that Plugger is the greatest player ever to play the game.

I wouldn't have Dunstall in the top 5.
My top 5 would be:
Ablett Jnr
Lockett
Ablett snr
Carey
Diesel

He Always didn't rate plugger, and id only started to forgive him in recent years for this after his wonderful series open mike . However after this has reared its ugly head I will be boycotting the show
Bring back the Lockett era

Re: Mike Sheehan rates Dunstall better than Lockett!
G'day all. Too busy to post on here much nowadays, but this is an interesting thread for an old bugger like me. Carey easily best of the last 25 years for mine. Not much of a human being perhaps, but gee could he play! I reckon opposition coaches put a lot more thought into countering him than they did for plugger or Dunstall (cut off their supply was the answer for them, but Carey could create his own supply to a certain extent).
I agree Plugger ahead of Dunstall. And of GA Snr too, but not by much. GA Jnr bloody good: like Carey, plays in his own special, devastating way.
I reckon Nick deserves higher than 48, but his kicking accuracy in front of goal I guess marks him down a bit.
Anyway, all good harmless fun.

Re: Mike Sheehan rates Dunstall better than Lockett!
I do remember Pert and Lynch doing pretty well on Lockett on a few occasons back then, and Frawley used to shut down Ablett snr pretty well, but Plugger was a freakish natural talent as is Ablett jnr and as was his old man. I would put Plugger and Ablett jnr way in front of Dunstall and Carey, who were very good, but were the finishing touches to champion teams. Ablett snr is up there somewhere too.SMS wrote:Plugger was the greatest.
Why Carey???
Overated. Jackovich smashed him. No one EVER smashed lockett or Abletts.

P.s - the absence of Loewe is another topic that I don't want to think about.

I think you'd find if Carey didn't play for North they'd be a 7-10th side with 0 premierships, like 97 when he missed half the yr.spert wrote:I do remember Pert and Lynch doing pretty well on Lockett on a few occasons back then, and Frawley used to shut down Ablett snr pretty well, but Plugger was a freakish natural talent as is Ablett jnr and as was his old man. Dunstall played in a great side no doubt but in 96 they were very ordinary and he kicked 100 and got them into the 8.
Would have Lockett higher then Dunstall but Carey sits alone at the top IMO.
Fuming about Roo though.

Lockett would be number one to me but it's all subjective. Gaz senior was 10 times Gaz junior to me. I saw plenty of carey and while he should be above Dunstall he wasn't the best of that lot.

Oh sweet lord I just looked at the whole top 50. And it is a comedy list!
Brad Johnson, Fletcher, Scarlett Pimple above Roo and Browny?! You gotta be kidding me. Might as well have Fev in there!
