St Kilda midfielder Seb Ross is set to miss 10-12 weeks after sustaining a hamstring tear in Saturday’s NAB Challenge win over Essendon at Morwell.

Re: Seb Ross 10-12 weeks
Our off season momentum is dwindling week by week atm with all these long term injuries. Really, really disappointing.

How is every hamstring injury turning into a 12 weeker?
Probably tendon damage more than just torn hamstrings.

Gutted.
We desperately lack genuine mids and Rosses pre-season as a mid had so far shown a good step-up.

Re: Seb Ross 10-12 weeks
It looked bad when he was laying on the boundary with the ice pack stuck to the upper part of the hammy. Never a good sign when they're up that high. Still I was hopeful. We've truly kicked a cat. All that momentum is quickly diminishing. At least it's early in the year, but poor old Seb's preseason will virtually have to start again.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

What an effing disaster.
Was one of our big improvers. Huge pre-season. 21yo. Ready to step up.
Big blow.

Re: Seb Ross 10-12 weeks
He knew he had done it before he took possession of the ball and before he kicked it. Didn't carry on, just limped towards the bench. The boy is all class. Just reinforced to me that he is the real deal; over many decades of watching the Saints you get to remember the special breakout moments. Yesterday was the day Seb Ross laid down his hand as being a StKilda leader for the next decade. He was visibly pissed off but did not let his emotions control him.
Missing a few weeks will not help us but it will feed his hunger for the game. I'm looking forward to his return.

WTF is going on? There has to be something seriously wrong this is no coincidence? Once again the Saints show their preseason programs and injury management are second rate - time for a some heads to roll !

Re: Seb Ross 10-12 weeks
Not good but not a disaster.
It seems the boys may have been pushed too hard this pre season. If so, more injuries will occur in the next few games.
But it's all training- this whole season coming up is just doing time.
Hopefully the bodies will be a bit tougher for the off season next year and we won't see the same issues in 2016.
Lots of patience required.

Whats galling is that with a full season of games under his belt Seb would almost have hit that magical 50 game mark. At that point we can really start to see if he's got the right stuff. Now after this season it will most probs be another ahhhing and umming kind of analysis with him over summer. And with the top end talent and huge amount of experience leaving over the next couple of season we really need some of these geezers to be getting into that 50-75 game bracket where they become solid AFL citizens and can keep us competitive.

Not sure I agree with the games theory. I think its more about how many pre seasons you have so I don't think it is huge impact in the long term. It doesn't help Ross this season though as it seems he may not play any type of footy until about round 8 and then he needs to get fit and in form so we are unlikely to see him in the ones until the second half of the year.
Re: Seb Ross 10-12 weeks
I think there is a lot in the "50-75 games to start to be a genuine AFL player" theory. Particularly for someone like Ross who maybe is lacking a bit of confidence, they then start to feel like they belong out there and get confidence to be more proactive. Plus at that point you just have a really solid feel for the ebb and flow of the AFL game, the pace, the running patterns, tactics and ball flow. You become better at reading the play to know where to be effective and do things in a more effective way. No amount of training or preseason compares to an AFL game of footy for learning and fitness in the crucible of battle. Diamonds only get made under pressure.plugger66 wrote:Bluthy wrote:Whats galling is that with a full season of games under his belt Seb would almost have hit that magical 50 game mark. Re: Seb Ross 10-12 weeks
The 'bad luck' cover story the club via Jamie Cox are offering after the spate of hamstring injuries is just rubbish! Once again they make blatantly fabricate statements and expect the supporters and general AFL population to swallow it. I thought the club had moved on from the Ross Lyon approach to the media.
Here is novel suggestion - 'tell the truth'!
It goes something like this 'the players have been put through a huge amount of running over the off season and that on top of a new weights program at some stage over that period the load has been such that the players have lost flexibility in their hamstrings attributing to their injuries'.
Very poor form Saints....
