4 goals in the first 5 mins of the last quarter - Lonie instrumental in a couple - Hickey running into space into the forward line - Membery moving well

Jack Lonie's vision is great - look away handballs and kicks which are hitting the target - he makes good choices

Same as last week. He is certainly in the round one side baring injury.

Re: NAB Challenge 2: Saints v Topups
Our tackling and pressure in the last was really good just need to maintain possession a bit better - some good movement though
Essendon only 11 shots on goal - 3 of which have come from inexcusable turnovers
Very impressed with Josh Bruce and his aggression
50pt win - good hit out

Good to see Hickey back, also thought Goddard got better as the game went on.
Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

Two words. Jack Lonie. Will be a gun. Lock him in for round 1.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!
Re: NAB Challenge 2: Saints v Topups
Nearly got what we wanted baring the injury to Ross. Some young kids looked ok especially Lonie. Saunders gets enough of the ball but just needs to tidy up his disposal. Bruce looks a lock for CHF and Hickey was really good in the last. You would expect a last quarter like that when over half the Essendon side trained 3 days a week until 3 weeks ago. At least it proves full time training is worth it.

Silly turnover goals hurt us but that was the story of last year. I watched the rd 20 bulldog game last night and we basically gave them 5 own goals with ridiculous turnovers.

I stil think hes two years away from making his mark but will be a goal kicker and will be huge.saint-stu wrote:It's great to get a good look at Acres. He's shown a bit for sure.

Dont know about two years, looks to be off the pace of the game. Worked into it and played reasonable football in the back half of the game.
Barring injury he should start to come good next season after a bunch of hitouts this season

Couldn't be worse than Saunders. Surely.Con Gorozidis wrote:Geary struggles with the drop punt.

Re: NAB Challenge 2: Saints v Topups
TEN 1% per centers from Goddard, 6 more than any other teammate. Good effort.
Shenton, Wright and Saunders.. Have a lot in common. Have a crack, but their kicking skills are not even vfl standard.
Thought all our forwards did a good job. All putting a hand up for round 1.
Acres was slow in game sense, but got better as the game went on. Will probably learn a lot playing quality opposition.
Lonie looks like a footballer! Pleasing to know he can execute his skills either by hand or foot.

Does McKenzie remind any of you guys of Luke Beveridge in body shape - or is it just me?

Re: NAB Challenge 2: Saints v Topups
Ahmed Saad has come back a 30 to 40% better player than prior to his suspension. Well done.
Re: NAB Challenge 2: Saints v Topups
Sounded like a pretty scrappy affair for 3 qtrs which I thought it they would make it before they wilted. I think you've got to expect a young team that flew to Brissy, played in heat and flew back then drove to Morwell to struggle to back up and be a bit flat. Lonie sounded great - how fantastic is it to have a forward who can set up his team mates. Sinclair sounded like he showed a bit. Serious bummer about Ross - he needs games, games and more games. Overall what you would expect a young, inexperienced team to do after a tough road trip - but job done.
