ST KILDA has spent the pre-season reflecting on last year’s stunning thrashing of top-four side Fremantle.

Coach Alan Richardson has repeatedly reminded his players that the watershed 58-point victory at Etihad Stadium in Round 18 should be their benchmark for 2015.

Spurred by Lenny Hayes’ retirement announcement four days earlier, the Saints’ 17.17 (118) to 9.6 (60) win was the only time they kicked a three-figure score in 2014 and their second-best defensive effort.

Rising star Jack Billings lifted the lid on how Richardson had used the club’s sole win after Round 5 to inject confidence into the wooden-spoon side.

“We’ve spoken a fair bit about it this pre-season,” Billings said.

ST KILDA fans will see more of Jack Billings this year. Literally.

The No.3 draft pick, already contracted for another three seasons, has stacked on about 6kg of muscle since joining the Saints 15 months ago.

Billings now plans to use that bigger frame to spark up the Saints’ engine room.

In the Seaford gym, the classy talent has been a standout.

No longer working out with the kids, Billings has been pushing himself against stronger bodies including Jack Newnes and Seb Ross.

On the track, Billings has trained solely with the midfield group and boasts a perfect attendance record.
