The 80's....
This is probably totally un-interesting to some, but posting it anyways...
I have been speaking to a former st.kilda/essendon player and he played with st.kilda during the 80's, he had some comments in regard to issues st.kilda had during that time.
All the players didnt like ! Darrel Bulldog as a coach...Apprently he wasnt a people's coach ( its not a personal attack on darrel ).
Travis Payze was a massive boozer, him and rod owen had a big punch on ( travis was drunk )
The Moorabbin disco created alot of issue's especially too much drinking.
Alot of the admin/board use to visit the players after games and personally spray alot of the players after games, were this should have been the coaches job.
Reserves had to train on the linton street park, ( full of broken glass and other rubbish ).
When lockett moved to sydney, it had nothing to do with greyhounds/craven incident, it simply was get away from the melb media ( we kinda knew that ).
Robbie mace was massive wild card !
Lots of essendon comments made, but i dont think this concerns us too much.
Cheers

Who was this Bulldog character? Did you speak to Mumbles?

Re: The 80's....
No great shocks I suppose.
Andrew Manning and Daryl Cunningham are two names that spring to mind that played for both teams around this time.

Re: The 80's....
A lot of options:
Allan Davis (late 70s)
Neil Besanko (very early 80s)
Doug Cox
Max Crow
Daryl Cunningham
Stephen Pirrie
Andrew Manning
Rene Kink
Brian Winton
Tony Antrobus
Steven Clark
Craig O'Brien (very late 80s)
Adrian Burns (early 90s)
Dale Kickett (early 90s)
That said, I think only Manning and Winton would have been with us when the Doc was coaching.

Re: The 80's....
Re Payze - he would've got on well with RB.
My wife's aunty told me how on many occasions RB was spotted outside the Beach Hotel in Port completely trashed.

And why does that matter. Im pretty sure everything he said was pretty much correct. Knocking the person doesn't change a thing. Obviously makes you feel better though.

Great fella Mumbles. Played locally for East Bentleigh then St Pauls in the mid to late 90's. Took a great hanger at Moorabbin one day. Comes from a great family and is far from a nobody.stinger wrote:played 30 odd games...lazy trainer....never fit.....injury prone noboby actually......Ajantis wrote:Andrew Manning - Correct !

Re: The 80's....
I 'm just glad I plated footy throughout the 80's and early 90's. I missed most of the carnage. I find get to see plugger kick his 100th against Footscray in 1987. A treasured memory.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

By "Bulldog" I assume you refer to Baldock? But for the life of me, I don't understand how any true St.Kilda supporter would refer to him by that name.Ajantis wrote:All the players didnt like ! Darrel Bulldog as a coach...Apprently he wasnt a people's coach ( its not a personal attack on darrel ).
Curb your enthusiasm - you’re a St.Kilda supporter!!
