Armo and Those trade talks- Article

Post: # 1521078Post saintbrat »

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/d ... 7147082437

media have managed to find Queenstown.
.
T
he 107-game Saint has forged a close bond with Richardson since the coach was appointed just more than a year ago.

“He came in, it was at our altitude camp in Colorado this time last year, and he spoke to all of the boys individually,’’ Armitage said >>>>>>>>>>>>
Asked what those home truths amounted to, Armitage said: “Oh, just that I was a bit of a lad who liked to go out and that sort of thing. I thought I’d shaken off that tag from the early days, but if that was the outside perception and he had that, then other people probably had that as well.’’

Armitage vowed to Richardson that he would he do everything in his power to change that perception.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
“One key change Armitage made was to his diet. “I ended up creeping up to about 89 or 90 kilograms towards the end of 2013,’’ he said
"This year I’ve come back in the best possible shape that I could come in, my skinfolds are the lowest they’ve ever been and my weight’s down to about 84 – I’ve probably lost five kilos by eating well and working really hard over the break.

“The changes to my diet have been more specific to carbohydrates. It’s similar to the paleo stuff that the Melbourne guys are doing. I still eat pretty well, but I’m just strict with what I put in my body. I didn’t realise how hard that can be, but I’m getting it now.’’

Another of St Kilda’s key midfielders, 19-year-old Luke Dunstan, discovered mid-season that he was wheat intolerant and cut carb-heavy bread and pasta from his diet, He dropped three kilos in as many weeks and is now sporting a much leaner body shape this pre-season.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Sometimes I do some stupid stuff on the field, and just I lunged to lay a diving tackle on him and my knee just drove straight into the heel of his boot, which opened up a bit of a gash right on the point of my knee. Then as I landed on the ground that gash split right open."
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
“I know exactly the sorts of examples Lenny used to set: when something needed to be done and we’ve had a couple of goals kicked against us, you used to know exactly what Lenny would do. He’d lay a massive tackle or come up with a hardball get that would lift the whole group, so I see myself as that man who needs to take that on.’’

The annual Armo ready to take the next step article.. Earlier this yr, usually comes out in Feb..

In all fairness though thought he took a huge step last yr and would've finished top 3 hadn't it been for his injury.. Most Likley our next captain!

I have only ever heard that so I have no reason to believe it was untrue. Perhaps Richmond would've liked something coming back but he was never on the table anyway which is fine by me.

That was a top article, other than the caption for Spud... The word assistant or specialist wouldn't have gone astray!

Yep but I believe it to be untrue. And if it was true we should have packed him and taken him to punt rd before they changed their mind but again I have heard it isn't true.

IIRC I heard Dan Richardson (from RFC) say on SEN when asked that they (Richmond) had enquired about Armo and been told 'no - required player' by St Kilda.
They then went after Trengove from Melbourne who failed fitness test.

They did certainly want him.

I'm glad we didn't want to trade Armo.

We need a big mature body on every line to protect the young blokes. Otherwise Dunstan, Billings etc. will be smashed before they're able to withstand it. That's probably also the thinking behind keeping guys like Shenton, and re-recruiting Saad, who will take some of the heat until they get surpassed by others.

How come when others post rumblings or face-to-face conversations with people within the Football industry that you shoot them down?

Yet we are expected to take your world as gospel?

Interesting.

This is how trade week works. Club A asks Club B if player X is available for trade. Club B says 'NO'. Club A tells media they enquired about X. Next day everyone is saying player X has been offered for trade or is being shopped around. Similar story here with Armo. Once we said no I doubt it even got to Richmond offering anything.

Im happy to be shot down. When did I complain about not believing me? I posted what I heard from a person that I rate as reliable. Couldn't give a rats if no one believes me.

It's great to read that a bloke coming into just his ninth season at the club is taking his fitness seriously. I think we can expect another exceptional season from a fella who's probably only taken about three million dollars out of the club.

Look Armo is an honest B grader that sometimes plays at a higher level.
Pick 12 for Armo would've been worth considering if it was ever on the table

Has a Jordan Lewis type career path ahead of him.

At the same age, questions were asked if Lewis was up to it, and it was really touch and go.. Now, just about the best player in a premiership side.

Similar type players, career paths and draft picks. I think Armo's second half of his career, starting now, will be far greater than the initial offering.

With a bunch of young kids, we need the grunt that Armo offers in the centre. With Lenny gone, we need him to lift a lot this year. It's his challenge to do so.

If pick 12 was offered then IMHO we should have taken it. Armo is 26 so by the time we are ready to win a flag he will be 31+. I would rather have had Corey Ellis with 5 years experience under his belt and in his prime instead of a 31 year old Armo.

Armo's leadership and grunt in the middle will be crucial to a team who has just lost Lenny.

The reality is that without Armo there, kids like Luke will burn out/get injured similar to what happened with Jack Viney and his lack of support.

I think the relationship he has with Richo could even mean he gets the nod for captaincy post Roo. Armo's best is better than b grade, before his injury he was fantastic last year - he is seriously underrated.

For me armo and jack are easily the two most important blokes in the side.
If either of them is injured or off form we are going to be absolutely belted.
