It's taken a long, long, time, but hopefully for everyone involved it is now over.
Get on with your life Milney, and make it a good one!

I'm sure the cost has been heavy for the victim too.

Hope there is closure.

I'm glad victims no longer have to hear that chant at the footy again.

She already did, and settled, years ago. Which adds to the stupidity of this whole situation.

Seems like a sensible sentence from the judge, and hopefully we will never have to read of this again in the media.

Thanks Legendary, I'd forgotten about that............

Never any winners in this type of case but both parties have suffered so much more because of the time it has been in the public eye.

Shame this wasn't settled a few years back.....Milney may have got another season had that been the case, plus it no doubt effected his form somewhat

What a stupid legal system we have.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars if not millions wasted on lawyers, court and police costs.
Most of those costs are to be borne by the taxpayers, with Milne copping a much larger whack than his fine.
The defendant only has to pay $15,000 because the offence was considered by the judge to be that trivial.
The case was so insufficient the police originally dropped it.
It should have been left at that.
But a whinging cop, politics and the media have now wasted all this money.

As a taxpayer I want my money back.

If lawyers want to make some more money they could persuade Milne to sue Collingwood and Mick Malthouse for falsely calling him a rapist whereas the courts have found him to only have committed a sexual assault not worthy of a conviction.

Riewoldt suggested through his testimony that Milne may still be playing if not for this pathetic prosecution.

I'm just glad this farce is finally over. An absolute disgrace that it lasted this long. Incompetence, expedience, grandstanding etc. As an ex detective/investigator, I cannot believe how poorly this was handled. I always have sympathy for alleged victims, but in this case it seems that Milne's status as a sporting celebrity, led to his downfall. If he had've been Joe "average", this whole case would've died a quick death at the time.

Why isn't someone being held responsible for the disgraceful way this has been handled by the police force? Its been over 10 years. Disgraceful.

Having a sexual assault charge does not seem to have hurt Carey's employment. He has had many chances and they keep giving him another chance.

I think the problem started when a Saints supporting cop in the area thought he would do the right thing and lose evidence. That ended up being the wrong thing for all parties. I feel sorry for the 4 people involved and their families and especially for the main 2.

"2012 - The Office of Police integrity calls for evidence from the 2004 investigation to be reviewed by the specialist sex crime squad. But Assistant Commissioner Stephen Fontana said he was "extremely disappointed" at Victoria Police's handling of the investigation.

I think you will find its true Stinger but really I should know that you wouldn't know. Makes me wonder about lawyers. They are just money hungry disgusting people who rip off anyone. I think you comment on just a few posts back really shows us how lawyers think. I would expect you to report this post like you seem to nearly Everytime a person who you claim to have on ignore replies to you. Probably shows what type of person you really are. I will others decide about that.

i think that the assistant commissioner agrees with you....incompetence rather than corruption......despite the actionable slanderous comments from our resident fraud......

Calling me a fraud now Stinger. Sounds like a perfect opportunity for you to get someone to sue me and waste even more money on those scumbag lawyers. Disgusting people. I may report you like some other gutless poster does nearly every time a reply to them. I stand by what I said. And I also take no notice of anything you say. Well I do take notice. Its very funny.

You did say in another thread the whole thing has been an abuse of process.

That sounds closer to corruption than incompetence.

Also slander is spoken... I think you mean libellous.
