Because my answer is no.
My position is my last post.

No it was about the exact title of this thread. Im sick of RL. No one is going to change their mind.

Ah 04 & 05.
Yeah I think mistakes were made. And I don't blame Lyon, Peake or Drain for those.
But do you blame Peake, seeing you were the first to mention him?

No not at all. Pretty silly question as he was at Geelong.

I really don't think a Recruiting Manager would trade away his picks to acquire that lot.
St Kilda only had two live picks. 31 I think it was and 70+ something.
Not prime picks. They turned out mistakes. St Kilda did acquire Hutchings who is going ok.
So my reason for not including 09 as I believe the recruiting team were not given a reasonable go at it.
How were Pattison and Smith not "live picks"? We walked into the draft with those picks (#60 and #64) and could have taken anyone else but we chose them:

https://www.draftguru.com.au/years/2009

Also available at those picks we could have had Duryea, Josh Thomas, Markovic, Ben Sinclair - and of course all the guys who went in the Rookie Draft, including Barlow, Golby, Silvagni, Howlett, Crameri, Jaensch, Podsiadly.

And of course our pick 32 - which we used on Nick Winmar - could also have been Sam Reid, Christensen, Vardy, Stratton, Roberton. Even TDL would have been better than Winmar.

You could definitely make the argument that Fisher and Allen in the rookie draft weren't live picks because we were forced to grab them for contractual reasons. But the recruiting team had 4 live picks in the National Draft, surely that counts as a reasonable go at it? How many should they have had?

All that said, 09 was a pretty bare draft. Fyfe, Martin and Talia are all stars. A few other guys are going OK including Mitch Duncan, Gunston, Carlisle, Cunnington (who just won a B&F). But not a lot of top-end talent.
