Bruce's Cyril should not be selected IMO.
Both teams will be unchanged.
Re MCC ballot - I've got a seat on level 4 low down. Anyone else successful?
Looking forward to the Hawks defying the odds and beating the AFL/COLA Swines!

Re: Official Grand Final discussion thread
personally i would pick Rioli if i was Clarko ... put the green vest on him and heading into the last unleash him to spark a couple goals with his skill ...
i would think the swans will want it to be a slog fest in the middle so let the tow teams kill eachother for three qtrs then inject the speed and skills of a fresh rioli into the game , could well be the master stroke to change the game for the hawks ...

Re: Official Grand Final discussion thread
Just an aside............ when I was watching (on TV) the Swans v Kangas prelim final, I was somewhat surprised to see quite a number of Asian faces in the crowd, with Swans colours on. Infact behind the goals in the area which I assumed was where their cheer squad is located I counted at least 6 (not all sitting together bye the way - so not a one off family group).
I usually like looking closely at the crowd when the cameras pan onto them, just to see the antics people get up to and the funny and often stupid facial expressions.
I started noticing many Asian faces around the ground, which I had never been aware of before when crowd watching games. Only saw them in Sydney colours not North for that match.
Great IMO if the AFL is attracting the interest of different races, especially in a non footy state.
I'll be crowd watching the Grannie tomorrow to see if Sydney has it's Asian supporters following them interstate to the MCG.
Has anyone ever noticed this? I have always observed that Freo has a high number of indigenous members/supporters that sit in front rows at Subi , plus Port Power have many indigenous supporters through out the crowd.
So the only reason that I could support Swans for this match is because they are appealing to a different ethnic group.
However, that is not enough reason for me.
So as long as Big Ben is in the side I'll be hoping he can get a GF medal to hang around his neck!!!!

Re: Official Grand Final discussion thread
When I was at the Swans v Saints game in Sydney, the guy in charge of starting the chants which I assume is the head cheer squad guy for the Swans, he is Asian, so I am not surprised there are alot of fans for the Swans of Asian descent.
With my hubby a Swans supporter, I have to go for the Swans, plus I cant stand the Hawthorn supporters (not all of them, just ones that I have seen at Hawthorn games, the few minority spoil it for the rest!), so I am hoping for a Swans win, that way I can rub it into the Hawk supporters at work...hahaha. Don't know any Swans supporters except hubby and his brothers, so to keep the peace at home, plus I brought him a GF ticket for his birthday so I am hoping they win....it was a totally different story 3-5 years ago when I was secretly hoping they would lose (Barry Hall incident and of course when they are playing us in a final)!!

Thankfully the GF will be watchable, as once again the card table will be set-up just inside the boundary line on the member's side wing.

I hope bud & tip tear the game apart, just to highlight how ridiculous their salary situation is.
Another null year is better than another mighty flyin' year in my book.

Hard to argue with that logic.dragit wrote:I hope bud & tip tear the game apart, just to highlight how ridiculous their salary situation is.saintspremiers wrote:Anyone who can't understand that the Swans are AFL endorsed salary cap cheats needs their head read
Another null year... in my book.
I certainly regard Swine flags as null.
(Gotta feel sorry also for some deluded South Melbourne supporters who, like some deluded Fitzroy supporters, claim to believe that their footy club is still in the AFL... just 'relocated'... and, with a different name. )

Re: Official Grand Final discussion thread
Are there any South Melbourne supporters still around Dave? I'm in my mid-40s and know a few Swans supporters ten years younger than me, who grew up watching the Sydney games televised live on Sunday afternoons, but had never seen a game at the Lakeside Oval. I grew up in the 80s in an area which was a Swans' zone, but Hawks and Saints' colours predominated, plus the Tigers were at the top of their powers then too and had lots of support.
I think a lot of the South Melbourne support has died of old age or changed allegiances after the hat trick of wooden spoons twenty years ago. Remember too that in the Emerald Hill area of Port/South Melbourne/Albert/Middle Park was firmly divided between South and Port supporters and never the t'wain shall meet. And of course the other side of the park was St.Kilda, who despised them and would play them for the Lake Premiership during the H&A season.

Re: Official Grand Final discussion thread
Good point Sam. My answer would be that there are still some. Certainly the AFL likes to try and play it up that both foundation clubs still exist in the AFL's artificially inseminated new 'entities'.samuraisaint wrote:Are there any South Melbourne supporters still around Dave? I'd never heard the South vs Port thing though(?) The only South Melbourne supporters I knew, had moved from there to the outer suburbs (as was the go back then), and they were also Port supporters. South on Saturday and Port on Sunday. Different world back then, eh? So not doubting you, as I only have a very very small sample size to draw on.

Re: Official Grand Final discussion thread
Oh, whilst still agreeing with SP and Dragstar re the whole 'null' thing re any Swine's $900K-induced flags, I actually reckon their current team is overrated.
The Skidmarks had the much tougher opponent last week, whereas Nuff Nuff made the Swines look artificially (pun intended) better. Also, Buddy the Ego actually has a fairly ordinary GF record. And Tippet is simply... overrated and under-performed IMHO.
I'm tipping the Skidmarks by around five goals.

Prelims proved port are way ahead of north, not sure it proved a massive gap between hawks and swans.
