He is a great bloke who did it the hard way. Full credit to Peter German who gave him a chance at Subiaco. Certainly not the most gifted of footballers but one of the hardest working.
+1

Some supporters cannot be gracious and can only find the negative. Great win IMHO to a very humble athlete.

maybe loris, but the award is the Fairest and Best.

With his diving, and ducking and playing for free kicks, I personally don't believe he is the Fairest.

I think it lessens the Brownlow to have a cheat win it.
If what you say js correct, then why aren't the umps onto it??

What a joke of a comment. Just because you don't rate him as a player, you have to then label him a cheat??

Disgraceful comment from a bloke who should know better (or maybe not)

My opinion of him. I find staging for free kicks as disgraceful and in my eyes cheating.

Cost us a game against WCE last year I think when the cheat feigned for a free in front of goals and the pathetic umpires fell for it.

If you don't mind games being decided by this "fair" play, good on you.

AFAIAC he and all the other duckers and stagers (including any Saints players) cheat to gain an unfair advantage.

You don't like my opinion? Too bad

I think a lot Saints fans will have a dim view from our match last year

2 frees in a row to Priddis that resulted in goals, both dubious at best… cost us the game.

Ask them.

it is not easy to umpire a match especially when there are 10-15 players around the ball. Priddis throws himself forward, throws his head back, drops at the knees, at every opportunity.

He doesn't earn his free kicks but unfairly stages for many of them. Have disliked him ever since he staged for a free in front of goals against us, and the gumby umpire fell for it and we lost the game because of it.

Yep
That game in particular is why I hate Priddus.

His staging cost us the game.
Umps swallowed it.
They seem to love him.

The fact that no-one in the media or the bookmakers rated him speaks for itself.

My God. Could you guys be any more childish?

Milney spent half his career staging for frees. So does/did Schneider. (watch the 09 GF in the 1st quarter when he goes to ground over nothing)

Hell. Roo admitted taking a dive just after half time in the 09 prelim final when Lake pushed him and he got a free in the goal square.

Of course I hate it when it's the opposition, but all players are guilty of it at some stage.

Selwood is a bona fide superstar, and he's brilliant at drawing the high tackle. How's it any different than Kevin Bartlett drawing the holding man free back in the early 70's? Yeah it's frustrating, but hardly cheating. He's awarded a free kick by the person umpiring the game. Should Tom Hawkin's have stopped the game in the 09 GF and told the umpy's that the ball hit the post?

Playing the man not the ball
Moods wrote:Milney spent half his career staging for frees. So does/did Schneider. (watch the 09 GF in the 1st quarter when he goes to ground over nothing)
Yes - I hated it and consider it cheating
Moods wrote:Hell. Roo admitted taking a dive just after half time in the 09 prelim final when Lake pushed him and he got a free in the goal square.
Hell. Total Revisionism. Umpire standing with Lake and Riewoldt, told lake a number of times to stop hitting Riewoldt, last one was a slightly high push. Riewoldt got the free for Lake being a moron and not listening to him to stop.
Moods wrote:Of course I hate it when it's the opposition, but all players are guilty of it at some stage.
So its only bad when the oppositions cheats? Nice.
Moods wrote:Selwood is a bona fide superstar, and he's brilliant at drawing the high tackle.
Selwood has great upper body strength and a low centre of gravity like Robert Harvey. Most of his frees are for high tackles that slip up.
Moods wrote: How's it any different than Kevin Bartlett drawing the holding man free back in the early 70's?
They changed that rule because it was cheating. You bounce the ball now when tackled and it is a free AGAINST you.
Moods wrote:Yeah it's frustrating, but hardly cheating.
Your opinion, but mine is that it is a blight on the game and is cheating.
Moods wrote:He's awarded a free kick by the person umpiring the game.
Many free kicks are incorrectly paid. Doesn't stop it from being cheating
Moods wrote: Should Tom Hawkin's have stopped the game in the 09 GF and told the umpy's that the ball hit the post?
Did Hawkins deliberately hit the post? Not at all like the staging/diving/head ducking cheating that our Fairest and Best engages in every single time he takes the field.

A disgraceful decision to award that clown a Brownlow. Should be sanctioned for bringing the game into disrepute now awarded for his cheating.

So a bowler who appeals when he knows a player isn't out is a cheat. Playing for a free is cheating. Never heard such rubbish. I don't like your opinion so to bad.

Great work by him.

Had to step up even more when Kerr retired, more ball to be won.

Makes you wonder, now that there will be more ball to win next year at the saints...

He is an example where it worked. Im sure there are many examples when it doesn't work when a star player retires.

They changed that rule because it was cheating. You bounce the ball now when tackled and it is a free AGAINST you.
Sentence 1) Roo took a dive. Who cares what the umpire said. He admitted it. Irrelevant how stupid Lake is, fact is Roo took a dive - in your eyes cheating.

Sentence 2) Don't put words in my mouth. YOU are the one that have labelled it cheating, not me. I hate it because they get a free kick. You are confusing gamesmanship with cheating.

Sentence 3) Most of Selwood's frees are from tackles that begin as legitimate tackles, but he has the ability to lower himself, and shrug the arms so that they go above his head. Just another form of drawing the free.

Sentence 4) They never changed the rule because they thought Bartlett was cheating. They changed it to improve the game, and the very best/smartest players were exploiting it. Did they change the kick in rule after 08 because Guerra cheated in the 08 GF? Of course not.

Was Dunstall cheating when he put hands in the back in marking contests? Was Spud Frawley cheating when he chopped the arms in marking contests? What about when he kicked the ball towards the boundary intending for it to go OOB? They must have changed their interpretations on the shirtfront because they believed players were cheating. Who knows they may even change their interpretation of the too high rule because of Selwood. If they do it won't be because they think he was cheating.

And yes, I label you childish, because your arguments are childlike. It's almost as if you haven't ever played competitive sport in your life. That may be the case, but you must get terribly frustrated watching the football.

As for Priddis. Yes, far more talented players have won the award, but as Terry Smith Rules pointed out - it's just another award, and another group involved in the game giving their opinion.

In essence he is a cheat.

Then be even glader Sellwood didn't win.

He is the prince of diving and a win would have proved the rewards of diving in front of the umpires.

Im not Selwood dives to much. He uses his strength to role his shoulders so the tackle goes high. Smart play.

I was going to say How relieved was the AFL when.....

Buddy didn't win.

After all, how could the press write a feel good story about coming back from the dangers of three strikes and winning the Brownlow and alike when the court injunction is still in place.

We'll never know until the injunction is lifted, but considering Dimwit hinted in a season some players took time off for mysterious injuries and Buddy did six weeks with a hamstring, you have to wonder.

Priddis a worthy winner I reckon, he got a bunch of stats.

Probably overlooked by the 'sheep-like' media in Melbourne.

Brownlow votes have been awarded by umpires for about 90 years and it remains the most prestegious award. Nobody will ever remember who won the Herald Sun award.

Remember when Ian Stewart won the first of his 3 Brownlows, the media were like "Ian who". Baldock was favourite that year.

I'm surprised nobody is critical of our recuriters, Priddis was overlooken in numerous drafts.
