Are we chasing Dangerfield?
I am just putting this out there, but.....would we give up the number one draft pick to recruit Patrick Dangerfield? The Crows have not ruled out letting him go. He becomes a free agent at the end of 2015 so for them to get any value they would need to trade him this year.
Absolutely no mail at all on this but...... he is a star midfielder. Is he worth a number one pick? I reckon that's what it would take to get him.

Re: Are we chasing Dangerfield?
One of the best players to watch when he's on. But, it is too premature for us at this stage. And if we could get him for nothing the next year, why not just wait.
Re: Are we chasing Dangerfield?
From twitter:
Patrick Dangerfield says it is completely in the hands of the club as to whether his name is raised as a trade option.
The 24-year-old Victorian will qualify for free agency at the end of 2015, and a trade this off-season would ensure the Crows get appropriate value for their superstar.
In the past 24 hours, he has been strongly linked with a move to the Melbourne Football Club, for what could include Melbourne's Frawley compensation pick, and one of Jimmy Toumpas or Jack Trengove.

Re: Are we chasing Dangerfield?
Would give them our first and second pick for their first pick and Danger personally.
In fact I would strongly consider a direct swap.
25 next year so will be around when our list peaks.
Immediately makes it easier for Jack Steven and co.
Dempster Delaney Geary
Gilbert Fisher Savage
Riewoldt Danger Montagna
Billings Stanley Saunders
Minch White Armo
Hickey Dunstan Stevens
Ross, Ray, Webster, Eli
Seems a solid base. I'm sure I missed a couple though as did that in a rush.

Well what is pick 3? Probably McCartin or Wright. Adelaide have a decent forward line, and Petracca would probably be far more favourable to them.Con Gorozidis wrote:Trengove plus pick 3.
Melbourne in the box seat.
Still not sure I would want to do it though.

Slow as treacle. Crows would much prefer Toumpas I would have thought.Con Gorozidis wrote:Durdin + Trengove.FQF wrote:Well what is pick 3? Probably McCartin or Wright. 2014 averages: 23.7 disposals, 6.7 tackles. Ranked 9th in goal assists for the league, 13th for contested possessions.
Could be our Lenny replacement and at 24 plenty of time to dominate going forward.

Re: Are we chasing Dangerfield?
Heard something on SEN the other day that we have plenty in the salary cap and that we may just "squirrell it away" until next year when
we will make a big play for a big name. Whoever was talking said maybe throw a 6 year deal at a paddy Dangerfield with the promise of
being captain to all our young guns who would be coming into their own by 2016. It wasn't anyone from our club doing the talking.
Wish I could remember who said it. Think it was on Hartfords show, but Hartford didn't seem too interested and they moved along.

Re: Are we chasing Dangerfield?
I'd have him in a heartbeat. Imagine him with Dunstan and Billings in a couple years? I think it's a year or two too early though. I think the club would be happy to use pick one in the draft, finish in the bottom couple next year and then start looking around for big names.
Opinions are like arseholes, everybody's got one.

Re: Are we chasing Dangerfield?
By trading, you tend to take the players choice of club out of the equation somewhat. Sure, they need to agree contract terms etc, but their choice of destination is limited to clubs that can provide a reasonable trade deal.
If he goes as a free agent/uncontracted in 2015, its a free for all, which, as the Swans have shown in recent seasons, there are ways and means to get the cap to fit the list, as opposed the getting the list to fit the cap!!!
If we are at all interested in Dangerfield (which we should be), we should be aggressive with his management to get him now. Give him an offer he cant refuse, where he wants to come to us, and then go to the Crows with the "take our 2nd round pick now, or get nothing in 12 months time because the deal is done" line.
And bugger Melbourne. They pulled of a beauty last year with Tyson, I'd be really disappointed if they land a big fish again, and we are stuck trading Pick 80 for other club's rejects....

I bloody love sloane. Crafty little player. Absolute gun. We should throw the kitchen sink at him at the end of this year.
As for trengove - i must admit i dont watch melbourne much and hes always injured - but from what I have seen Trengove looks very ordinary. Doesnt really excel at anything. He will just bore you to death.

Despite us having a blueprint for when we chase players, you really need to look at who is available regardless.
That stated, I would stay par for the course.

sloane
everyone raves on about danger and hey, he is good, but sloane is the one for me
dunno about trading away pick one for him
i dont honestly think we will trade pick one at all
i think we'll be using it and saving coin until next year for a good big name

Petracca this year. In this draft it's Petracca, then daylight.
2015/2016 we use our salary cap positioning to go raiding... a FA +/- the PSD... I'd be looking at the likes of Sloane and Cameron then.

I don't really understand why GWS would trade Cameron? He'd be close to the last bloke on their list I'd let out the door. Give Patton or Boyd if you have to but surely Cameron stays.St Chris wrote:Isn't Cameron out of contract this year??
No point waiting till next season, after a club has locked him in to a long term deal....
