Priority Pick

Post: # 1499192Post Spinner »

Should we ask and should we get a priority pick.

I think we should definitely ask the question, puts pressure on following years.

When is the deadline for submissions? Surely we have to ask.

If Melbourne has, we must also - hopefully our guys are just not making the same circus out of it as Melbourne

Agreed.
We should ask for five priority picks, but I'd settle for two.
But seriously, I think the club is mad if they don't. Nothing to lose, and lots to gain.

If we don't qualify under the old rules which were deemed to be too generous, then I don't see the point in asking.

PP's will only be granted on exceptional circumstances, not just being in the bottom for a couple of years.

We've had reasonable success too recently to have or hand out yet.

The new rules are discretionary but take into account:
premiership points that a club has received over a period of years (with greater weight to recent seasons),
a club's percentage (points for/points against x 100) over a period of years (another indication of on-field competitiveness, with greater weight to recent seasons),
any finals appearances that a club has made in recent seasons,
any premierships that a club has won in recent seasons, and
a club's injury rates in each relevant season.

I think we'll just look pathetic if we have our hand out already, plus we won't get one, not a chance.

I've an open mind about this issue. No harm in asking the question (IMHO )

From what I hear we wont get a PP, but have NO DOUBT, we now have an AFL CEO and Commission very much more accommodating to the STKFC.

Matt Finnis is at the Saints due to assurances that the Saints would be supported by the AFL.

SO if we dont get a PP, we are getting back on track in many many other areas.

If you don't ask you don't get!

So worth asking the question..

No harm in asking.

But remember that it would not be after our first pick, but after the first round.

That we have effectively not resisted BJ or Dal going in order to deepen our decline to get better picks of youth, will weaken are case to geta PP.

The AFl wants to close the gap between the lower clubs and the stronger ones. With Free Agency it has inadvertently helped the stronger clubs get stronger. I say it's time to revert back to the old rules of 2years with less than 5 wins a year qualifies for a PP automatically.

As we won 5 last year we wouldn't qualify yet and Melbourne would have picks 1, 3 and probably 4 for Frawley… we would be shuttled to pick 2.

I'm glad they have effectively scrapped the Priority Picks, I don't like the two seasons under 5 wins system, imagine if say Geelong, Sydney or Hawthorn dropped down in the next couple of years… it would be completely unjust for those sides to get a priority pick in the next 5+ years.

If they are going to make base it on accumulated wins over multiple seasons, they need to spread it over more than 2. Maybe 5 years with less than 20 wins should trigger a pre-draft PP. Collingwood had a PP 2 years after playing back to back Grand Finals, probably the difference in them winning one in the end.

Let's build an awesome team without priority picks, I don't want any excuses when we nail a flag in a few years.

I don't mind if they want to give us one.

We would never get one this year and to even have a chance of remotely getting one next year we would have to have an absolutely atrocious season (ie: 2 wins) and can the club afford that??

Here's hoping we never find ourselves in a situation where we have to ask for one because it would mean that we were infinitely lower than rock bottom
