he was training with us and had been promised a spot on the list....the saints went back on the agreement when the gtrain told the club he wanted to be redrafted...so stop trying to turn my post into a farce ffs...dragit wrote:Cutting him loose?stinger wrote:no gtrain initially...but redrafting him and cutting barlow loose was a big big mistakeShanghaiSaint wrote:Here's a classic hindsighter for you all.
which would have done us better, not taking Gtrain and keeping pick 18 Kerr? think a guy like Kerr would reached the same heights with our famous mids... maybe been a difference in 09?
Personally I preferred what we did but wondered what Kerr could have been for us.
Thoughts?
He only trained with us briefly - was never on the list, he also trained with Essendon who didn't take him… then only rookied by Freo so it would be absurd hindsight to suggest we should have known better, he wasn't rated as good enough for any clubs primary list.
We should have also taken Cox, Rockliff, Dahlhaus and so on.

Just run us all by this theory will you mate…stinger wrote: he was training with us and had been promised a spot on the list....the saints went back on the agreement when the gtrain told the club he wanted to be redrafted...so stop trying to turn my post into a farce ffs...
Fraser retires at the end of 2007, but decides to make a come back… we re-draft him in the 2007 draft at pick 57. He retires again at the end of 2008.
Barlow trained with us before the 2009 season, then later with Essendon after the 2009 season.
Fremantle take a chance with a rookie pick in 2009 draft, after all other clubs pass over him in the National draft.
How does re-drafting Gherig cost us Barlow?

How does Kerr make a difference in '09 when he can't make it onto the park?Legendary wrote:Kerr played 11 games in 2009 and 4 games in 2010. He was basically stuffed after 2008.
Useless argument.
We would not have drafted him with pick 18 anyway, WA boy through and through.
Gehrig kicked 150 goals in 2004-05. If we had no Fraser, we wouldn't have made the top 4. Simple as that. Where do you think we would have found an extra 150 goals?
How do we even go close to making the finals in 2004 or 2005 without 150 goals?

It's also worth remembering that Gehrig spent his first year with us at full back because we were desperately in need of a KPD. I don't remember anyone kicking too many on him. He was also a great user of the ball coming out of defence.

Re: Hindsight.... GTrain or Kerr?
Was just thinking the other day how enjoyable and fun it was to go and watch the saints in that era.
More so than the saints of 09-10 I reckon.
The team rising up the ladder for the first time since 97-98 prob made it more enjoyable as well.
We used to smash sides by 60-100 points regularly .

+1, such a talented list back in the 04-05 days, so enjoyable to watch, I reckon I took it for granted the list we assembled..70s sainter wrote:Was just thinking the other day how enjoyable and fun it was to go and watch the saints in that era.
