Ross Lyon after today

Post: # 1497267Post Con Gorozidis »

Well hes been bloody unlucky - but I cant see Ross Lyon ever winning a flag now.

Has any coach ever coached 10 years+ without a flag?

Frees 17-7 in Swans favour. Just a joke.

Replace Taverner with McPharlin or Johnson - Freo win .

Some very dubious frees given to the swans in the parts I watched.

Be some happy campers here though I guess.

Curious, what's the average score in finals of Ross Lyon coached sides?

Don't agree. They were never going to win....don't kick enough goals. Freo would have had to kick 8 goals in the last quarter to win. Swine were always in control. Face it lyin is a loser. And I love it. Creep that he is.

69 points in a final simply isn't good enough.

It wasn't in 2009, and still isn't.

I heard that Freo has had 1 Riding Star nomination in the 3 years that Lyon has been there. How many did we have out of curiosity?

Pretty hard to get another GF choke when they have to beat Hawks to get there.
I'll have to barrack for Freo next 2 weeks, as a straight sets exit wouldn't be as satisfying as a GF loss!

I think we only had 1 or 2 in his 5 years with us which is ridiculously low.

Aren't we getting ahead of ourselves? Freo will crush Port/Rich next week and might surprise the Hawks in the PF, just as the Dogs almost beat us in 2009. Swans v Freo in the GF, who can say what might happen?

John Northey and Rodney Eade both coached for 14 years without a flag.
Both were multiple premiership winning players!
There are/were another 6 coaches who have coached in more games than Lyon, but I'm sure if Fremantle is patient he will pass them all!

Not sure about that.."both port and the tigers are capable of doing the shockers over...they don't kick enough goals....Lyons curse....

Good get whiskers with Eade and Northey - I hadn't realised they had coached that long.

I cant see Freo getting back up anytime soon - McPharlin and Johnson are almost gone. Pav and Sandi almost gone. Mundy getting on. Thats 5 A grade players they will need to replace. Almost impossible to do.

His only hope is to piss off from Freo at the end of next year and then get to another club with a good young list.

Wont be easy for him from here. BUT - the Gold Coast Suns job might be free in 2016.... that could get him a flag.....

If not the Dogs in 2016 might be a job for him as well...

Yep. Everyone saying they have increased their attack but only when they are flat track bullies -just like we were. In big games straight back to the shut down footy. The parallels to us under Lyon are scary - fantastically tough and committed with a strong structure so are never really out of it. But have poor ability to link up with good kicking due to so many average skilled players. They can't get any easy crisp goals with clean ball movement and every goal is hard work which must be exhausting for the players. And they just bomb it into their 50 more often than not rather than being able to hit up targets like the other 3 top teams do. And what young player has Lyon developed at his time at the club? That Morabito was meant to be a gun.

There is no surer bet in AFL than the beaten Qualifying finalist defeating the winning Elimination final winner.
Check the records...I think it's only ever happened twice since 2001!

Hard to see anyone defeating the Hawks and Swans in the preliminary finals.

Agree the parallels are startling. Very similar. Tough as nails, desperate in defence and always in the game - but just don't have the disposal and skills to really get on top of a good side. Even when we were really good - we hardly ever got an easy goal from precise kicking and running play. They were all hard earnt.

I guess Lauchie Neale is a good little player (in the Lyon mould) and you could say Fyfe has developed under him but Fyfe would be good anywhere under any coach.

RL isnt developing enough players and will leave them in a not much better position than he left us in.

But if GC under-perform next year - who knows Lyon might get handed a flag at the GC. Not impossible I guess...

Surely people will wake up to him soon, as they eventually did to that other snake oil salesman Wallace?
