Still Can't Crack A Century

Post: # 1473769Post Newman »

Would have been nice to finish off the game v Eagles with a couple more goals. Painful to watch in last q. Our best effort so far is 95 points v Giants Round 2.

Other pitiful scores from Round 1 - 68, 58, 50, 81, 79, 30, 69, 87, 54, 59, 37, 70.

Agreed being coached very defensively but we are not good enough to hold the opposition. I believe AR has got the balance wrong and is that defensively minded the team is very poor at taking the game on when they win the ball back. We appear to be so player conscious at stoppages there is no offensive run. Attack can sometimes be the most affective method of defence but I dont believe AR believes in allowing the players freedom to attack the ball.

Yes we have a weak list but it seems AR has quashed any belief and spirit that was left in the team since RL left.

I wonder who was the last team not to notch up a century in an entire VFL/AFL season. I hope we don't become the latest inclusion into that (not so) elite group.

If we were to kick a triple figure score it would really feel like a huge victory in itself, wouldn't it?

Probably us. We own those types of records.

I understand why you with the ball in back half, but there are times when you could hit a target up the ground and chose to go back.
It's annoying how slow we are with ball use. When we do go quickly we look ok, hold it up and I just think, here we go, opposition goal in 30 secs

10 goals 10 is a solid effort for us, as is a 5 goal loss.

Interesting that Roos is "teaching" Melbourne in the same way Richo is "teaching us" - preferring low-scoring defensive footy. I agree that we haven't got the balance quite right (obviously) - but we had 20 shots yesterday (plus one out on the full?) which is a better attack on the scoreboard.

20 shots on goal will see you in with a chance most weeks.

Melbourne and Brisbane are also yet to score 100 points this season.

GWS's first season they only did it once - 107 against Port in August. That was the game that got Primus sacked. How far have Port come in two years?

While we only have one realistic target up forward being Roo this will always be the case.
We are crying out for other options, not only as another avenue to goal but to free up the defensive pressure on Roo.
It was defenders tag teaming Roo even when we had Kosi but now it's even worse.
The coach hasn't got many other options but to coach a defensive gamestyle. Our cupboard is bare for key forwards.

At least we have a few years to settle our defense personel and gamestyle. Then we can add some gun key forwards from the draft and it will all come together.
We have to be patient.

Port have certainly come leaps and bounds since then. To think Ken Hinkley was in the running for the St.Kilda coaching position after RL left. An interesting "what if?" hypothetical for had of we chosen him instead of SW.

Against West Coast a 5 goal plus loss is like ten goal loss to most other teams.

Unbelievable - if we had more than one realistic forward option we may have kicked fifteen goals yesterday. :(

correct which is a par result for us in our development cycle at the moment.

On that point, has Wallace on SEN given out his golf scores for each team for the past round?

I reckon we got a par.

We'd still be struggling.
