Re: Joey to the bummers
He could have gone to Gold Coast 3 years ago on massive $$$.
Roo was loyal. Joey is loyal. Dal wanted to be loyal until it passed the point of no return. BJ wanted to be loyal on his terms- 700Kpa

Re: Joey to the bummers
I stand corrected. However, he definitely seemed far more keen to stay than Goddard. Was the current coach the tip of the iceberg?St Chris wrote:Not sure where this idea came up, that Dal Santo was traded. Call me delusional, but Goddard was a mercenary.

Dal Santo was out of contract, the option for an additional year was never taken up, and we received a second round pick (Pick 25, used as part of Longer trade), the Delaney deal for Pick 77 was completely seperate.

St.Kilda could have provided Dal Santo the funds to stay but elected for the future.

That as well.noob wrote:St.Kilda could have provided Dal Santo the funds to stay but elected for the future.
Which leads to the question on whether Joey is required for our rebuild period. I'm inclined to feel that he is needed. He is leadership material. Perhaps potential captain if Roo is to retire before him. I think it's important to have a couple of highly skilled veteran players who can be of guidance to the younger personnel.
Thoughts?

Depends where we rate the likes of Gilbo and Armo I guess.Sainternist wrote:That as well.noob wrote:St.Kilda could have provided Dal Santo the funds to stay but elected for the future.

You would rank both of those players as "highly skilled"? I wouldn'tCon Gorozidis wrote:Depends where we rate the likes of Gilbo and Armo I guess.Sainternist wrote:That as well.noob wrote:St.Kilda could have provided Dal Santo the funds to stay but elected for the future.

Re: Joey to the bummers
I reckon joey will be the next skipper. Signed a 3 year deal late last year/early this year!! He's stated flat out he wants to be a one club man!

If it's pick 18 or 19 then I hope this is true.
Unless your mate is Joeys manager or on the extreme inner sanctum at bomberland then I cant believe it is true.
like i said.....

Re: Joey to the bummers
He can be captain of the Bummers if he wants. And be a part of a three man club along with BJ and Zaharakis.Saint wagga wrote:I reckon joey will be the next skipper. Signed a 3 year deal late last year/early this year!! He's stated flat out he wants to be a one club man!
Re: Joey to the bummers
I'm not sure there was ever a chance for Nick to go to the GC
Their target was alway Gary... Roo was under contract when the entered the comp?!
It was a nice story, due to his background, but the reality is that ATT he was the Captain of a top 4 club... Not even entertaining leaving... Plus he was on 900k already.
The only two times he contemplated leaving
2012 and mid 2000s
Both the same club... Both times a short meeting.

Well, I think we can put to rest any deal seeing Joey going to the Bombers, nor anyone else for that matter.
Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

Re: Joey to the bummers
Pretty common knowledge that GCS were after Nick in a massive way… hence why we had to pay him a million per season for so many seasons.BigMart wrote:I'm not sure there was ever a chance for Nick to go to the GC

Re: Joey to the bummers
It's actually not true, in the least?!
It was a romantic story, but all rumour based, as stated he was in the middle of his contract. I'm pretty certain he wasn't even on their hit list.
Gary was there main target. That was known two years befor he started at GC and why he was the constant news story about his contract
Rooey resigned mid year... Putting to end any media rubbish.
As I mentioned
Collingwood had a real dip
At him, Kosi, Ball, BJ
All in 2005

How would you even know who Gold Coast had a genuine attempt at getting?BigMart wrote:It's actually not true, in the least?!

I'm sure they would have loved both Gary & Nick.
Although you say you are happy to admit when you are wrong, we don't see it very often. It's well known they had a massive crack, so give it away. The idea that they wouldn't really be interested is absurd.
"Gold Coast showed bit of interest in 2009 ... but at that stage we were looking at a pretty good thing, in the middle of '09 we hadn't lost a game and I was pretty confident of the direction the club was going - and I still am, but clearly at that stage a premiership was on the horizon, so that was about as far as it ever went," Nick Riewoldt.

ST KILDA captain Nick Riewoldt remains the Gold Coast's dream inaugural skipper now it is officially an AFL club, not just an ambitious concept.
Top of the wanted list is Gold Coast-raised Riewoldt, whose name has been linked with the GC17 bid consortium since a second Queensland club was floated.
