How about Tom Curren?cwrcyn wrote:If Armitage isn't fit, which other midfielders do we have at the moment to replace Jones? I can't think of any.
Pretty disappointing dropping him instead of CJ...

Re: Team vs Port Adelaide- Sat 7/6
Our forward defensive work has been terrible all season- and apart from Roo, there has been a total lack of intensity offensively and defensively in the forward line- I'm not surprised Stanley and Siposs were dropped, and I don't think they are capable of doing any better to be honest. Good to see Dunnell get a run, as he has worked hard for it. I wonder if AR is thinking of Simpkin at FF..
Re: Team vs Port Adelaide- Sat 7/6
Correct. In fact 12 players with 27 games or less. This is our second least experienced side of the year, after round 1.cwrcyn wrote:Last week 14 players under 50 games, thus week 15 players under 50 games
I'd love to see Simpkin play forward for a few weeks. I really like his approach, it's just a shame he's not big enough to be a key back. If he can make a career as a forward it'd be really pleasing.

Godd for Dunnell and Lee both look likely players and with Dunny he's probably gone if he doesn't show something. Not many get elevated off the rookie list then plateau and hold a senior spot. He trains like a super star and has been playing good VFL footy.

I think you guys are all being a bit kind to sip. Don't know what he's done to deserve another game? A few possies in junk time and 0 tackles..?
Lee a good inclusion
Curren unlucky

I don't understand what everyone sees in Curren. As far as I can see his only assets are reasonable pace and massive guns. Disposal is poor to middling, doesn't find that much of the footy, has done some OK tagging jobs without being great. What am I missing?MC Gusto wrote:I think you guys are all being a bit kind to sip. Don't know what he's done to deserve another game? A few possies in junk time and 0 tackles..?

Simpkin, Lee, Dunnell
Are consistently our best VFL players
Like
Shenton, Curran, Weller were before them
They have to make the transition as the above mentioned have
Problem is, they are probably just gap fillers until talent returns from injury or is recruited in... But at least they all have a dip
If they disappoint, it ain't though lack of effort

Schneider is playing his final year. Surely we can't keep persisting with his almost constant injury issues.

But he has done some good jobs and isnt bad in some circumstances.
Too early to make a call on him. End of next year may be a different story though.

good to see these changes for Port good luck to Dunell and Lee. Saw Dunell on debut in Brisbane and he did enough to say he will be a good player...not so good to see some of the rubbish posted in response...lot of short sighted snipers on this forum
Re: Team vs Port Adelaide- Sat 7/6
Curren was accumulating massive numbers last year at Sandy but he's come in as a tagged with pretty unremarkable results. Perhaps a change of role is necessary to maximise potential.

Re: Team vs Port Adelaide- Sat 7/6
Changes give others a go. However, having watched Sippo fairly closely over the past 2 seasons, his tackling pressure has improved a lot. I saw a few instances last week, where he put himself in and yes, he did lay a couple of tackles. I would have given him a few more consecutive games.
Stanley out is a wake-up call for him - thought he tried hard last week too, but like Sipposs, without any real effectiveness.
Lee will be interesting to see, but against Port, it will be a very difficult step-up for him.

Yes, you're right ...
Lee has not been consistently at his best this year or last at Sandy.... In fact has played better at AFL level than VFL
Not sure why is posted that
Correct for the other 5 but

Lee plays for about 10 minutes per game and kicks his one or two but then goes missing before an after that time. I hope he starts stringing more minutes together let alone games.BigMart wrote:Yes, you're right ...

skeptic wrote:my goodness, what is this skill that CJ has?
cannot believe he gets the nod again. for how long can he continue to play average football?
He has what Luke Ball didn't have and that is the ability to spread quickly. Coaches love guys like CJ because he gets involved in nearly every chain of play somewhere. His pressure acts are very good. His disposal has always let him down but his endeavour and ability to get a hand in to make life hard for the opposition gets him games. If we had a hybrid of him and Siposs we would have a gun player. Watching him live lets you see his ridiculous work rate, he's like a mini me Rooey with his running.
He is actually a really good player to have the kids play with because he Lenny and Rooey just work harder than anyone else on the field.

My main issue issue with him is when he gets it and just throws it straight on the boot straight away for a mongrel kick fwd.FQF wrote:Curren was accumulating massive numbers last year at Sandy but he's come in as a tagged with pretty unremarkable results. It's a strange phenomenon that some guys play better around better players while some seem to play well at any level. Probably more understandable as a key forward though as you rely on supply to ply your craft.

Can't see him doing much rucking though? I guess he'll have to at some stage.

Weller - Curren
Delaney - Stanley/Siposs
