When is "Fat Tongan" round?
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

What's wrong with didgeridoo making for the kids? I know its not everybody's cup of tea but it seems more than logical to do this in Indigenous round.saintspremiers wrote:What rubbish. Re: Reconciliation/ Indigenous round lead up
The entire round is rubbish.
Is this the one round that the AFL community gets together and feels good about a whole bunch of white folks killing etc a bunch of black blokes?

No I wouldn't have thought so Ed…The Redeemer wrote:The entire round is rubbish.

More a celebration of Indigenous culture and hopefully raise awareness in reconciling some of the terrible events of the past.
It's a great initiative, even if you don't like the jumper designs.

Re: Reconciliation/ Indigenous round lead up
http://m.smh.com.au/national/sorry-joe- ... 38u7t.htmlPhotojournalists search for extremes of human behaviour, which is why so many of them risk their lives in war, but they winkle out the little moments that tell us about the conditions of our lives and our world, too, and in reflecting truths, invite us to think.
The picture of Aboriginal footballer Nicky Winmar pointing at his own skin, captured 21 years ago by photographer Wayne Ludbey (now of the Herald Sun) and run on the front page of The Sunday Age, jolted a nation. It was the most decisive of decisive moments, the echoes of it still ringing throughout society, yet it might have flickered by, a curiosity, if it had not been for Ludbey's instant understanding of the import of it, defined by the headline ''I'm black and proud of it''.
The best photojournalists (and Australia's media are full of them) use the mirrors within their cameras to reflect who and what we are, or are not. They annoy politicians and others of profile and power because they do not focus on the images those subjects might wish to project. Their best pictures are on the sly, creatively and instinctively stolen in a fraction of a second, just as Henri Cartier-Bresson prescribed.

Richo played on Nicky way be at that game

Even if he tried he still has an official reminder of a below-par performance that in truth added to the mystique of the afternoon.
“I have still got the game report from Leigh Matthews at home that basically said, “We were disappointed in your performance”,’’ says Richardson.
“In terms of my role in trying to quell Nicky I clearly failed to do it, but he was a pretty special player and Gilbert was the same. When they were on, they were incredibly hard to stop because of how dynamic they were.
Winmar will not be at the game tonight, with the AFL and St Kilda perhaps a little disappointed but not surprised.
He has battled health issues after a heart attack, and is always reluctant to head west from Esperance, only withdrawing from this latest trip on Wednesday.
He told the Herald Sun last year he was thrilled that the game would be played in his honour.

Re: Reconciliation/ Indigenous round lead up
Hopefully they can do a live interview and put it up on the screen before the game. But I doubt even that will occur. Don't think our club would be capable of orgaganising that.

I like how AR played on Nicky in that famous game at Vic Park. Nice piece of circular history.

Re: Reconciliation/ Indigenous round lead up
Was somewhat taken aback by the elder who did a welcome to country thing that turned out to be a long disjointed inarticulate lecture on tribal languages.
Was also surprised to learn that Hip Hop was an ancient Aboriginal tradition.

Re: Reconciliation/ Indigenous round lead up
I looked at the Collingwood cheer squad a couple of times in their lovely white tops and wondered if the local chapter of a white supremacy group had turned up.
As for their jumpers they were even more awful than ours.
And then we had the middle aged woman in their cheer squad who stood up with a banner inviting Harry to partake in a Brazilian with her.........
I suspect she was asked to lower the banner out of cultural sensitivities to Harry or to us

Re: Reconciliation/ Indigenous round lead up
Indigenous Round is Racist...... why are we highlighting players based on their ancestry?? Shouldn't we be focusing on players' skills and efforts regardless of their background?? I just don't get it.
I never saw Nicky Winmar as a great 'indigenous' player.... I saw him as a legendary player.... A gifted INDIVIDUAL who got everything possible out of himself on a footy field.....I saw Robert Harvey in the same light.
