How is Jones ahead of them?
Weller could be good, Curren has a bit of work to do, neither has played much AFL footy yet…
Jones has had a reasonable career and is now done.

On current output Jones is ahead of both of them ATM. Hopefully Weller and Curren continue to develop. Without attempting to state the obvious the team will be better when we have more talented players pushing all three out of the side. Don't get me wrong, I like all three players and hope all do well but from my observations they are all GOP's / fringe players at best with little improvement. All have major deficiencies.

I reckon Weller might be the most naturally talented of the bunch. He has a little bit of creative flair to his game.

I would agree. He's a big bull and can crash packs. He's the type you can't have too many of though. Very limited game. But we've seen Armo (who has similar attributes) work on his outside work and impact the scoreboard. Hopefully Weller can do the same.
We are crying out for someone like a Hill brother who has genuine pace, endurance and kicking ability. A genuine outside run, carry & spread specialist. Doesnt have to always get his hands dirty but has to run his ass off and kick it well.

Sadly, to date at least, the bloke whom we recruited for that role has turned out to be pretty tame. Doves don't tend to impact on the scoreboard.
It's Dave, man. Will you open up? I got the stuff with me! -------Who?

What I think is unusual is that we have tightened up our rules on this board but you can still be swear and be rude and disrespectful to anyone that doesn't post on this board. Interesting.
Agree with Gringo (not withstanding CJ didn't have a great game) but everyone underestimating our need for his grunt and bulk and age. He was never a silky skilled player but works hard and deserves some respect on past performances.
Con is dead right about us needing a Hill brother type too.
Jones has tagged Ablett before and done a reasonable job or at least as reasonable as anyone could expect against Gaz. He was absolutely torched last night Gary just did as he pleased in the first half. However in his defense the pressure in the first half on Gaz's team mates was non existent. Pretty tough job tagging the best player of the last 20 years without any help at all from your team mates. Was the right call to go with Jones first up, equally was the right call to go to Mav in the second half Jones was a shattered man by the end of the first quarter. I doubt Mav would have done any better than Jones if he had started on him the Suns were moving the ball with such speed and precision Gaz was always going make his tagger look inept.
In a side that lacks pace and endurance it is difficult to tip Jones out. He has already been replaced as the No.1 Tagger by Curren this game was the exception to the preceding 7 rounds and purely because Curren is not quick enough to run with Ablett. Maybe Weller can force Jones out but more likely Weller is competing with Curren for the tagging job. Over time maybe Savage or Markworth can provide the run and force Jones out but on current form neither are banging the door down in the VFL.
Right now with our injuries and form it is hard to see how tipping out more senior players is going to do anything other than expose our youngsters to a series of Melbourne like beltings. Jones is a pretty obvious scapegoat for what was a dismal effort by the whole team in that first half.
Pleasing its not his tagging form that posters are tired off - its him constantly turning the ball over or putting others under presssure with his poor skills. He is the continued break in the flow of possessions to clear the ball effectively and efficiently.
I am another who think he is well past his 'use by date'. Time to look to future !
SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!
We are currently like a car with a broken fan belt. We don't have a replacement fanbelt, and Jones represents the pair of panyhose we pinched off the missus to use as a fanbelt in order to get the car to a servo where we can buy a new fanbelt. He will "kind of" do the job, it will look ordinary if you look under the bonnet, and you know it will not last, but it just may help us limp into the place we need to go!!

IF you look around the room and can't identify who the sucker is, then it's probably you!

Our midfield largely consists of Hayes Armitage Steven Curren Dunstan
Plenty of experience and grunt there but we sorely lack skill and CJ most certainly does not privide that.
Maybe hes an ok player but hes not what this particular side needs. He adds nothing to the team.
Fancy others. Id rather Saunders and Ross get more senior footy.
Disappointed about Savage. If he was even slightly ok we wouldnt need to have this conversation.
Agreed with all of the above regarding Jones disposal it is magnified even more now he isn't doing the tagging role as much and if we had Wright Gilbert Templeton Armitage Geary in the wings ready to play I would be keen to give him a spell. As it is we are probably going to lose Acres and Delany to injury and the rest of the side is hardly in sparkling form. Perhaps Saunders comes back but ultimately the Fan Belt metaphor is probably right we're stuck with him for a while longer till we have the right replacement parts. We are down to bare bones now, the VFL results are a reflection of this. Jones will make way at some point this season and when he does that will probably be the end for him. He has extracted 100% out of the limited talent he has. I still remember him taking one of the most courageous marks I have ever seen against Sydney in Rd1 2008. He should be applauded on his way out like Jason Blake was

Now he can't even seem to do that.
Not sure what he adds.
When he played as an in an under mid at the start of the year he was very good. He is playing as a defensive forward since but was given a go tagging again and couldn't get near Ablett any more. No shame in that. He was struggling when he got the ball because when we won the ball off the GCS they really pressured us. Jones was just slapping it out hoping it would go somewhere but so was Lenny and quite a few others.
The problem with Jones is that he thinks he is a leftfooter but in fact he is a right footer , the only solution is to break both his legs and retrain him as a right footer

Do you think AR changed his role to give the kids a go?
