Re: Votes
5 Hayes - I always feel happy watching Lenny wheel out of the pack with the prune in his hands
4 Steven - starting to get his uncanny composure back in heavy traffic
3 Dempster - one of the best readers of the play in the competition - class
2 Delaney - keeps doing his stopping role despite the ball being pumped in constantly - seems to have icewater in his veins
1 Newnes - looks more and more confident - is really starting to want the ball now
Supplementary - Webster - good come back this week

Re: Votes
Just out of interest Saints.com.au had them at
Best
5. Newnes
4. Steven
3. Hayes
2. Dempster
1. Webster
Shenton also got a mention.
Interesting to note Newnes previous record was 26 disposals and today was only his second career goal so fair to say it was his best game ever.
He has played 34 games now. Is going to be a very good player for us.

1. Longer
Lenny. What can I say that hasn't been said?
Newnes has 'arrived'. Great game in an overall ordinary team performance.
Good to see Shenton going well too. I thought he was pretty hopeless against Carlton.
Steven, much improved.
Longer actually won in the ruck. Not often that we can say that of one of our players.

Encouragement award for two of the kids, but really it was Lenny who single-handedly dragged us back from certain obliteration to a competitve second half. He's amazing at 34. What leadership.

Re: Votes
How can anyone have Longer in the votes? No kicks, no marks, 4 handballs. Won the taps, sure, but if thats a measure of a good game may as well recruit the tallest basketballer kid in Australia, plonk him in the centre and he'd win a brownlow... I think Longer will be good, but a crap game is a crap game..
He must find a way to get more of the ball and win possession, especially in the air. Taps are the most overrated stat in the game, 4 handballs and no marks under a roof surely cannot be vote worthy, no matter how bad the loss... Are those that rated Longer's game the same one's that bemoan McEvoy's lack of hit outs, all the while taking 10+ marks a game?

Longer did more than just tap. He goes in for second efforts around the packs after the bounce and provides an extra body in the hustle. Beyond that, some of his taps were so effective that they immediately put the mids in an attacking position.
Agree that he needs to do more. He needs to link up in the transition, he needs to provide a marking option out of defence, and he needs to drift forward and pinch a goal.
Certainly not in the votes for me, but wouldn't say it was a crap game despite the stats.
