Ross, Markworth and Saunders were good
Simpkin got a busted nose in the second quarter and his mum didn't want him to go back on. He did and played full forward in the last quarter.
Great to see Tom Hickey on the bench coaching Lewis Pierce and Holmes in how to play ruck! Lewie looked good for a first up game.
I think Lee needs to play full forward for the Saints!

Re: VFL Rd 7 Sandringham Vs Werribee
Werribee closes in on top four
Werribee Tigers are within striking distance of the top four after a commanding 67-point win over Sandringham.
The win was Werribee’s first against a top eight side this year, as they inflicted the Zebras’ second loss in a row. Sandringham has two weeks now to contemplate its drop to fourth on the ladder, and likely lower before they return to the field in Round 9.
Utilising the strong breeze in the first term, Werribee got the advantage they needed kicking eight goals to one in the first term, with Jye Bolton and Mason Wood the main avenues to goal.
Sandringham were unable to gain the same advantage with the breeze, as Jesse Crichton played loose in defence and helped repel many of the Zebra attacks.
A goalless third term by Sandringham helped Werribee set up an unassailable lead of 76-point lead at three quarter time, with the likes of Jarred Moore (32 disposals), Tom Gribble (29) and Sam Wormald in his 100th game helping the Tigers into a winning position.
Despite winning the final term, Sandringham will have a lot to think about during its break, suffering loss number two after an unbeaten opening to the season.
Werribee however are on the rise, as Wood jumped to the top of the VFL goal kicking ladder kicking his third bag of four goals for the season.
Best for Werribee were Moore, Tim McGennis, Wood and Michael Sodomaco, with Kane Turner (3), Kieran Harper, Ben Brown and Ben Warren (2 each) join Wood (4) as the multiple goal kickers.
Seb Ross and Beau Maister both kicked two for the Zebras, with Ross (33 disposals), Brodie Murdoch and Kenny Ong their best.

Re: VFL Rd 7 Sandringham Vs Werribee
Watched the last quarter and a bit.
Unless he dominated the previous quarters, Tom Lee is looking more and more average as the year goes on.
Not even a good VFL player at the moment. Not strong enough in a contested marking position and not aerobic enough...
Murdoch through the centre in the last. It seemed Savage was getting tagged in the previous by the coaches words at 3qt? As above Saunders a nice goal from 50 and Beau tooks some grabs while I was there. Hickey in a boot talking to Lewis was good to see.

Ross having 33 touches is pleasing.
Rarely have guys come through dominating in the VFL for us lately so it's good at the very least - even though AFL performances are lacking.

Sandringham has now lost two games in a row after being undefeated in the first five games.
Ross was the best despite being tagged, Brodie Murdoch (14 disposals) was damaging at times and Josh Saunders (21 disposals, one goal) finished the game off well.
Myke Cook and James Munro both finished with 21 disposals off half back and first gamer Lachie Ritchie (six disposals) showed some promising signs when moved onto Warren in the last term.
Sandringham has a bye next round while Werribee host Richmond on Saturday in the ABC telecasted game from 1pm

Stick him in the forward fifty and leave him there, he knows how to kick goals! Kick it to him and he'll do the job.8856brother wrote:What did he kick? 4 or 5Bernard Shakey wrote:Ross, Markworth and Saunders were good

No he won't, because he's not very good. We paid way overs which is, overall, one of the few drafting blunders we've made in recent times.Bernard Shakey wrote:Stick him in the forward fifty and leave him there, he knows how to kick goals! Re: VFL Rd 7 Sandringham Vs Werribee
but we have no other tall forwards is the problem. Maister will no doubt go end of year, White is smudge of excrement heading out to sea, and that's it. soon enough you have to chuck Lee in and see how he goes.

No we didn't. We got Wright, Murdoch and Lee for pick 12. That's not way overs. Then again, we could've just had Jesse Lonergan alone who may be a good player but has only played 4 games to date due mainly to injuries.suss wrote:We paid way overs which is, overall, one of the few drafting blunders we've made in recent times.
Even if Lee and Murdoch don't make it, it's still a win as Wright will be a 200 gamer.

Re: VFL Rd 7 Sandringham Vs Werribee
Saunders finished very strongly in the last quarter. Must be one of the fittest St kilda players.
I'm surprised Munro #1 wasn't named amongst the best for Sandringham - I thought he was almost the Zebra's best player. He provided plenty of run and dash off half back.

Lee was struggling with vfl last year too. He seems like a player who does better at afl level. I thought he was pretty good at the the end of last year , especially in the farewell game I was at last game. I know his vfl form doesn't a call up but we are crying out for some goal kickers and support for rooey. I think we should just play him and find out if his any good, if he doesn't perform get rid of him

Re: VFL Rd 7 Sandringham Vs Werribee
I agre that if you look at the whole deal, incorporating Wright and Murdoch, then it looks reasonable. But to trade down 12 places (pick 12 to 24?) for Lee alone is paying overs. You can't say that getting it right on Wright justifies the outlay on Lee. To that end, we overpaid. Happy with Wright though and I think Murdoch will be ok too.St Ick wrote:No we didn't.
