Then answer is probably not one of Maister, Lee or White.
We probably need to go back to the drawing board. Yes we will attack the draft but is there another Jay Schulz out there? Much maligned in a sh*t team but who is actually a gun player?
What did Hickey and Lee cost? picks 12 + 13 plus we get White and Wright. I think Wright will be the only above average player out of that lot.
Big call giving up early picks...bet we wish we could have those picks back.
I would think you should better your chances on getting A grade players rather than forfeiting chances on those not rated that high just to raise the numbers of a neglected list.
Looked good when he took it on in the last qtr. Ran past opposition with speed, carried the ball and kicked with precision. Yes he wasn't great, but he teased a bit late in the game. Maybe gave us an indication of what he is capable of. Just needs something to click. Whether that is confidence or something else, I have no idea.
Agree , he might have been told to take the game on after. 3/4 time. Admittedly the dogs had stopped but he actually stood out for once . This has to be what he must do for now on at the saints- be a line breaker instead of just a link in a predictable chain.

Got some natural skills and a high opinion of himself.
But not too interested in putting in the hard yards required on and off the field.
Not having a go but I dont think you can be a 'list clogger' at age 19 in your 2nd year by definition of the term.
You can say hes no good and/or not going to make or a waste of a pick 23 or whatever it was or whatever you like.
But I think the term 'list clogger' is reserved for people over 24 who are keeping a spot or opportunity for a younger player and who are not contributing in a meaningful way or likely to improve.
Dont want to be a terminology nazi or anything
Take your point of order.
But Spencer IS disappointing. VERY disappointing.
Only ever does cameos.
Watched him closely last week and for big periods he contributed nothing.
Just trotted around, never getting in the play, never running to create options, not doing the one percenters, not rushing to contests to be the 3rd or 5th man to bore in and help win a contested footy. Just seems to wait for the footy to come to him so he can show off his skills.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

You've got to keep in mind that both of those drafts were compromised given that GWS and Gold Coast had already ripped the guts out of that groups of kids. The thinking was that there wouldn't be much difference between what was available at pick 12 (or 13) and pick 24 or (or 25).
Probably only time will tell how much we gave up. I do agree though that we'd like to see a bit more out of Lee and White.

Hickey has been showing enough to suggest he could be a very good modern ruckman. Lee will be okay too IMO. White will want to get moving but perhaps they have already told him he will be playing in the VFL all season and his interest is waning.
But so far Spencer comes across as one of those blokes who doesnt care about footy all that much and then gets to 30 in some sh*t job with the same bunch of suburban mates and really regrets not putting more into footy once he realises the 'real world' is actually much harder and sh*tter than playing footy for a job.
In the last quarter he took a mark on the defensive goal line and then did an incredibly lazy kick into the middle, the ball was cut off and they scored a goal. I just thought gee, there was no concentration and/or even much of a care with that kick.

I saw that as a poor decision but could be confidence. I'm not sure he was being lazy.
Well I actually do expect inconsistent effort in a 19yo. Nothing new there BIgMart.
But even if he came out and had 1 big game in 5 and kicked a bag of 5 Id be pleased but he cant even do that. I mean 1 big game then 4 shockers would actually be a good result and at least we could then have some hope and something to work with. But we havent really seen a big game at all.
I'll be bagged for going early - but he is in a fair bit of trouble if you are asking me.
Yeah White looked terrible. And I thought Lee was without conviction in the air. Dunell the only non-disappointment. Savage was an ordinary player in a very good team at Hawthorn. And TDL is no good either. It's all a bit sh*t. Going to the dark side.

23yo. 60 odd AFL games.
Done his apprenticeship now and should be ready to rumble. Very very disappointing thus far.
Does anyone really think the Hawks would let a gun 23yo just about to reach his peak footy years go?
I think there is every reason to think Pelchen stuffed up on this occasion.
I'll be happy to be proven wrong and Ill heat my hat/humble pie. But indications suggest this is highly unlikely.
7 games and he is written off…was never going to be a champion but once he learns to play with the less skilled he will be fine...
As for the Hawks not letting champions go, how does Josh Kennedy sit with you?

Well I was ready for this as I KNEW someone would bring up Josh.
Firstly - He was only 20 when he left for the Swans.
Also very different set of circumstances given his family name and the Hawks. May well have had his own personal reasons as well for a fresh start etc etc. Living in that shadow can be a real burden for a kid.
So I wouldn't be resting my argument purely on that one if I were you.
And its not 'written off after 7 games' - Its after 62 to be precise.
And dont take my word for it - ask yourself why Jonathan Simpkin played in the GF when Whitecross was injured in the Pre-lim?
As I said - I hope you shove it right up me and I look the fool. I really do. But indications aint great at this point in time.

McGlynn goes all right too.
Simpkin played as was more like for like.
Savage had a VG GF the week before, he also had a poor 2012 GF which was in the Hawks minds...

Well I really hope all you guys shove it riggggght up me (Teddy Whitten style) and Savage is a good player.
I mean its very important and I really want it to happen. He is in both a position and age that we sorely need and will need for the next generation.
He is also the style of player that you need about 6-8 of in todays game - So I can totally understand why we went for him. On paper he is a perfect fit for what we need right now.
But so far we have to go on observations not fiction or whats on paper.
But I think I was unfair on Pelchen before. I think CP was just very keen on getting 3 x top 20 picks. Savage was never his main game and was probably more of a 'might work out' kind of trade with his core objective being the 3 x top 20.

Spence'... way too early and way too talented to be writing him off... needs to bulk-up so he can impose himself more on the game. If that means spending the year in the VFL, so be it. Maybe even 'do a Markworth' and have a rest from playing so he can really hit the gym...?
Savage... clearly needs to get the thing and then... run with it! Tell him to take the game on I reckon. To aid this, we need to seek to match him up with an opponent who isn't lightning fast.
Tom Lee will be fine. Just needs to build his up some more strength (after the two shoulder ops) and fitness.
Dunell has played very well all year (c/f with one top game from Arynn) so should be the next cab off the rank and deserves a decent run to have a chance to settle.
I thought that Minch also showed quite a bit.
