Re: VFL RD 4- Sandringham vs Casey
Quick half time summary. Bloody freezing here at Casey. Strong wind blowing to the grandstand wing. So far best saints players are Dunnel, Acres, Murdoch, Roberton.
Not a lot of free flowing footy.
Weller is a bit quieter this week but he is so aggressive it's fantastic to watch.
Lee very quiet. Longer has given away a lot of frees in ruck contests but has taken a few nice grabs around the ground

Milney gave him the nickname from his first photo shoot at the club as due to head/hair shape and his body had yet to catch ipsaint-stu wrote:There hasn't been much free flowing play but Dunny was good in the first quarter. Milera has done some nice things as has Bull. Sandy is dominating Casey.
Do they call Simpkin "Head"? Sounded like it.

Good to see Acres doing well. Can't wait to see him play for the Saints.BringBackMadDog wrote: So far best saints players are Dunnel, Acres, Murdoch, Roberton.

Not at the game but the radio commentary have rated Weller best on ground so far.
Goal to Minch.

The commentators - who obviously don't follow St Kilda very closely - are commenting about Maister's marking non-ability. Apparently been dropping it all day, and was just spoiled by little Toumpas.

Really?? That's a surprise! Maybe he needs glasses like Geoff Blethyn.FQF wrote:The commentators - who obviously don't follow St Kilda very closely - are commenting about Maister's marking non-ability. Apparently been dropping it all day, and was just spoiled by little Toumpas.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Maister isn't clunking them but it is still working well for Sandy. Lots of crumbs picked up from Maisters contests.
Mav has been good. Not sure about BOG though. He looks too built up to be a footballer but I guess it works for him.
Really good team performance so far.

Re: VFL RD 4- Sandringham vs Casey
Thought Markworth was very good today. Mav to mind was BOG. Cannot wait to see him lay those sort of tackles in the seniors. Very Lenny like in his tenacity. Backline was really good today but made to look good also by the effort of Casey.
Shenton, Dylan and Simpkin all played a good role for the team.
Thought Murdoch worked in his way into the game as well.
Worried about Sippo and Lee and Maister is Maister. Hard day for tall forwards though with the strong breeze. Sippo is trying too hard to impress for mind and not sharing the ball when he needs to.
Acres will be a very good footballer.
The game style between the Saints and Sandy is very in Sync with each other which can only be good for both clubs.
Overall super impressed with the harassing and tackling. Certainly becoming a Saints/Sandy Trademark which will hold both in good stead.

Re: VFL RD 4- Sandringham vs Casey
Ok, just got back from Casey fields. A quick summary of the day:
Very windy and cold at Casey, the wind was blowing straight across the ground, one goal Cook kicked he actually aimed about a metre outside the point post and it went straight through the middle. Terrible day for tall forwards, Lee and Maister barely took a contested mark between them.
My thoughts on the saints players
Longer: went ok, took a few marks around the ground but I thought he lowered his colors to Gawn
Simpkin: was solid in defense, crunched a few in heavy tackles and rebounded well
Milera: was quiet, did some nice things now and then but with the amount of ball that we had could have done more
TDL: played a lot in the midfield and was ok without being brilliant, not his type of game with a lot of contested footy and packs
LEE: didn't do much at all, watched him closely, just doesn't work hard enough. No multiple leads, no defensive efforts
Weller: geez this bloke plays for keeps. He tackles to hurt! His skills are very good but he isn't overly quick. I think he deserves a go in the seniors but I don't think you can play him, Dunstan, Lenny, Ross and Curran in the same team. They all lack a little leg speed.
Maister: struggled to hold his marks but did battle hard at ground level, he is an honest trier but just not up to AFL standard
Dunell: brilliant first half, was in everything. Ran hard and took some great contested marks, faded in the second half but still a good game
Shenton: good game again, gave plenty of run off half back and didn't give his opponent a sniff, disposal was good too.
Munchington: worked his arse off, tackled chased and harassed all day. Unfortunately for him, I think Curran has his spot in the seniors
Murdoch: best game I've seen him play, played mostly in the midfield/ half forward, his kicking is very, very good. Took some nice grabs and showed more mobility. Starting to regain some fitness after no pre-season
Siposs: very disappointing, does not work anywhere hard enough, he was second to the ball over and over again, when he did get it just tended to bang it long instead of looking for short options
Acres: this kid is a gun, his ability to find space where there is none is brilliant, his ball use is spot on and he almost always takes the right option. He must play senior footy soon
Markworth: very good game, his pace is elite. One passage of play down the wing was electric. He started along side his opponent but in 3 strides he put a metre on him, took 3 bounces and left his man for dead. He will play senior footy this year

Re: VFL RD 4- Sandringham vs Casey
Sorry missed Roberton! He was actually our best defender, played a great game. His fitness is right back, he ran hard all day, took some great defensive marks and destroyed his opponent.
