Still to come back in
Given the great win we had last night, I wonder if we can fit all of the following players into the side in the near future. Last night we were missing certain starters in Gilbert and Armitage, while Fisher, when match fit, would also come in. The depth is looking good, considering we also have the likes of Roberton, Lee, Savage, Milera and Simpkin doing well at the Zebs. It's just a shame Wright is out for the long term, as it seemed he was also a first choice player. It also makes me wonder where the likes of Siposs, TDL, Markworth and Murdoch are at. Thoughts?
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Shenton also doesn't look too far away. Then there is acres and the great white hope.

It certainly isn't a problem, although may present as a dilemma.
There are always going to be injuries and form drops so that will allow the squad to naturally rotate itself. Otherwise, young players will be rested every so often. I don't think we need to settle a best 22 any time soon, we just need to be able to separate the wheat from the chaff by seasons end.

Who do you think is "wheat" and who do you think is the "chaff"?FQF wrote:It certainly isn't a problem, although may present as a dilemma.

He's 19 and we don't need to worry until the end of 2016 - by which time we should know if he has a futuredesertsaint wrote:Neither am I. Still we can hope.Teflon wrote:Not sure bout great white hope...

Happy for Templeton to have a spell. A couple of games in the VFL on the ball could be advantageous.
I think we need to see Billings for a while now, even if he has a stinker.
Dunstan may need a rest soon but he is a big boy and may not need one.

We also have to start separating those that try hard but butcher the ball and those that have skill. What some people might refer to as tough calls will need to be made sooner or later.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Still to come back in
Weller and Shenton are a long way away because both are rookies.
I honestly don't think Gilbert and Fisher are guys that must come back in. The main thing this year is to develop young players - neither Gilbert or Fisher are going to be in our next great side. Also, in Gwilt and Dempster we have enough experience down back to marshal the younger guys around them.
I'd rather see Josh Bruce get an extended run. Murdoch has had an interrupted pre-season and so I wouldn't think he'd come into calculations for a while.
Also, I'd hope that Seb Ross gets an extended run in the side at the expense of CJ sooner or later.
Lee could come in this week, depending on what structure they want to go with up forward.

Not sure I get the Gibert or Fisher thing because you use examples of players the same age as having enough experience. yep we are rebuilding but using your point we would not bring in Lenny if he was injured because we have CJ and Joey. Fisher and Gilbert even not at their absolute best are better than Jimmy and Dempster. If we can only have 2 of them and Fisher and Gilbert get fit then its bad luck for Dempster and Jimmy. I think all 4 could play anyway and the way its going maybe only 3 will be fit at the one time.
