Yep, especially inside our own defensive 50. Amazing how many times we had the advantage and should have cleared but the next thing you know it's a Crows goal.

Without wanting to single anyone out in particular, one of our guys spilled a spectacular easy mark on the left HFF in the final quarter. A few mins later, he took a slightly more difficult mark in the same position, and played on with a 1-metre handpass to Roo's ankle. Frustrating times.

We are, and have been all along, a bottom 4 side remember.

Why the shock that we just got walloped?

We probably 4 players in the team that will be part of our next genuine side. So if yesterday came as a shock to you, I think you may need to take a dose if reality.

And even discussing the coach's performance at this stage of our rebuild is utterly futile. And totally irrelevant.

Wouldn't have made much difference because our midfield was comprehensively out played - but we were still undermanned down back - Bruce would have been handy.

The tctics only worked in the first quarter. They beat us because they were better in second quarter. The balme lies in ability not the coach. At least 4 times that quarter a good average kick to a player would have got us goals but they stuffed up.
Agreed. Never understood this "outcoached" BS. Always heard it about GT. THink it is just a lazy way to not blame appalling disposal, decision making, and a better opposition.
Well, that's not strictly correct. Of course skills and conversion hurt, but good tactics are, for example, what makes Ross Lyon such an effective coach.

A team which is able to use the space efficiently to defend and attack; pressing at certain times, have certain players around stoppages in certain situations, blocking of runners - it's not instinctive skill, it's pre-determined tactics. Not to mention match-ups and rotations.

Richo was out-coached by a guy who's been around for three years. No worries - he'll learn, he'll see how they set up, what they did well, what they didn't do well, how we can improve.

We're starting from a long way back as a club, including our coach.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Richo had a bad day at the office- that's all..all new coaches do unless they are given a side like Geelong.

Yeah that's it, IMO it will only put us in good stead, we are growing as a club obviously Richo included, negative feedback is sometimes a good thing.

Learning curve by Webster?!

Why didn't he free Joey up? into defence, and get him loose to play as QB

If the tagged him as a defender fine... It would present a tagger in their front half, not ideal in attack.
Then pull another back (Gwilt) to play that role...

See how long Adelaide would run a 7 man fwd line vs 8

We were definitely out coached against Adelaide. Skills were also poor, I thought the players effort was there tbh, but we were just running circles. Went forward but never ever looked dangerous or like scoring simple due to structure/game style.

Joey was being tagged. They tried to break the tag by putting him back. You didnt see the game so its hard for you to understand.

I actually think that was the same style of play that used to undo Ross Lyon too. We were unable to set up our zones as the ball came in too quickly. Essendon always did it to us and teams like Hawthorn could up the speed of delivery and roll us. We are going back to a team defence set up and the best way you can beat that is just to play straight up the middle and pepper the goals. We wind up around the outside then turn it over.

Exactly,
forward entries shallow and haphazard, easily hurt the other way.

You don't break a tag 'Norm' by putting a player back?!

And if Joey did go back, how effective was his opponent fwd? If Not then it worked... An ineffective fwd.
Just to help you out, a tagger can follow you anywhere
The only ways to break a tag are to work the to spots they don't want to be ie/ full back
Get assistance by blocking from team mates at stoppages and checks in general play
Go to another player and create a two on one (cannot be done in backline, you don't want a two on one fwd) this leaves a spare
Or simply out work them... Get off their body, and work them over aerobically

If Richardson is learning tactically from Brenton Sanderson, after having been involved in AFL footy as a player, assistant coach and head of footy for about 20 years - then we're rooted.

Or is it at all possible that at this stage of our development, having Joey being the main ball winner every week is stifling the development of others?

Why strategise to break Joey's tag? What is an extra 10 kicks from him going to achieve in the long term?

If Richardson is planning to win at all costs each week, then as a club we're on the wrong track and have the wrong coach.

I'd much prefer Joey get the best tagger each week.

We are all armchair experts aren't we?

Your revelation about being a a bottom 4 club is a little bit of a cop out is it not? Adelaide have been dreadful this year, they have NO fwd line .... And have been flogged this year even in Adelaide...

It was at Etihad

I expected a win, and I'm realist or even pessimistic ....

But it seems it was worse than a loss..l it was a hiding with little effort... That is not to be expected

Spot on SR. The players were obviously as flat as a witch's tit. The trip to Perth and back always needs to be factored in, especially with the young players. I was surprised by the margin, but not that we were beaten fairly easily. The skill level of some of the senior players was disappointing, but fatigue will do that to you. Let's hope the injectors suffer a similar lapse this week, although I 'm sure Dr. Ageless could whip up a quick tonic!

In any event, sack Richardson. There, I said it!

Then he should be sacked.

He should be coaching for 2-3 years time, each week.

He needs to be developing young players each week, and if that means we get rolled then so be it. If it means we win, then so be it. The result each Saturday in 2014 should be very low on the list of measurables.

And if you tipped a win, you're a terrible judge.

A trainer setting a horse for the Melbourne Cup is not aiming to win 1st up over 1200m in September.
