Re: Only one change Webster for Roberton
Savage a very lucky duck!
Savage probably saved from the chop by Subi being a large oval and WC run and spread -
Add to that the next cab off the rank is Ross who might leave us very exposed on the spread.
Leaves us a bit small down back (although dylan didnt play tall anyway).
So Delaney will have his work cut out. Not sure how we can cover NicNat, Kennedy and Darling to be honest.
Gwilt may get a serious touch up.

Re: Only one change Webster for Roberton
Obviously our selection team have short memories! Look forward to Cox, Natinu, Kennedy & Darling tearing us a new one...
SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!
Re: Only one change Webster for Roberton
We may play a7 man backline with stanley playing as a loose man back there and a 5 man foward line .
Re: Only one change Webster for Roberton
Pretty obviously we're going to try to run them out of it. Not a bad strategy in my opinion. We'll still lose but we'll give them a run for their money.

I would have considered our being "ripped a new one" (as you so charmingly and delightfully put it) extremely likely whichever combination of players on our list we put on the park.WinnersOnly wrote:Obviously our selection team have short memories! If we finish within 4 goals of WCE I'll be prepared to invest some dough on us making the 8!

Will Longer be a late inclusion for Hickey?

Not convinced gut feeling Leigh Montagna rested ...Savage will play wing ..
Longer in side Saints 3 Talls go with Eagles Rucks tactics to drag them forward where possible.

The choice is to put tall seconds players in the side or try to play a different game to them with our current first players. Neither will work but the second option makes more sense. Pretty sure our selectors have all of us covered on the strength of the WCE.

Re: Only one change Webster for Roberton
Roberton had a disrupted pre-season due to ankle surgery. Probably a fair way off peak fitness. Noticed against Melbourne that he landed awkwardly in the 3rd quarter and hobbled for a bit after that.
I wouldn't be surprise if Longer comes in for Hickey. Would be nice to see both of them play this week, though.

Re: Only one change Webster for Roberton
It's not an easy selection decision - go tall with inexperience to match them (and still get thumped), or use whatever pace/smaller size to hopefully compete and/or open them up on the bigger Subiaco oval.
Constant pressure on the player/ball is needed for 4 quarters to keep us in the game - or it will be a similar thrashing that the non-combative Demons put in.
I am just hoping for a good competitive effort, which supports what has been done in the two opening games. However, as they say, the cream eventually rises to the top. Darren Glass is a big improvement on Roo's recent opponents, so another 5 goal effort would seem to be a big wish!

To be honest, if we are less than 10 down at the final siren I'll be happy.meher baba wrote:I would have considered our being "ripped a new one" (as you so charmingly and delightfully put it) extremely likely whichever combination of players on our list we put on the park.WinnersOnly wrote:Obviously our selection team have short memories! Not that I enjoy losing, as long as we don't look like Melbourne last week and give them some competition for a good part of the game.
Let's not forget, they have had it pretty easy for the first two rounds, they may come out thinking they only need to turn up to win, it may be interesting if we jump them early.
Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

Might be clutching at straws but, if there had been a pre-season G.F. Eagles would have gone close to winning it, so they have been up for a while now.
With a bit of luck they may be flat this weekend.
Anyway, under 24 points would be a great result.

Re: Only one change Webster for Roberton
Hope Roberton is okay. I think I remember he was struggling at Freo and wanted to come home because he wasn't coping being so far from home and family. His big hit last year wouldn't help that either. If he's got issues with stress, anxiety or depression I hope the club has some good people around him. He looked a bit flat when I watched training was all but I could have been imagining it.

Re: Only one change Webster for Roberton
Agree - but that leaves no room for passengers. All our midfielders must contribute to get numbers at the ball. Savage cant be MIA again or we will be on soldier down and get caned.bergholt wrote:Pretty obviously we're going to try to run them out of it. Not a bad strategy in my opinion.
