Ross Lyon's love affair with recycled players?
I find Freos current situation similar to ours under Lyons regime when it comes to recruiting.
Freo has recruited quick fix solutions with players that are either always injured or hacks.
Gumbleton and Sylvia will never get on the paddock and both seemed to lack discipline at their previous clubs.
I look at the hacks Ross recruited when he come over Eddie,Burss,Mcqualter,Lovett,Polo ect.........
Has Ross got a eye for recruiting quality I don't think so,he likes to recruit players with baggage so he can turn them around and claim the accolades.
Just my thoughts ....................
Go Saints.

Eddy and McQualter were recycled?
McQualter was there before Lyon.

Oh thanks for clarifying....
Lovett wasn't a hack.
Eddy wasn't recycled.
How come its only St Kilda supporters that think he is doing a bad job at Fremantle? And the rest of the football world praise the transformation he has had on that team?
Bitter? Jaded? Ignorant?
Let's get some answers flowing.

Eddy & McQualter weren't recycled?
Why did you leave out Dempster, Ray, Schnieder, King, Gardiner, Dawson & now D Pearce. Silvia & Gumbleton were free/cheap, meanwhile they still took a few kids in the draft.
The fact is that not many players taken over #50 odd become good players, so most of those picks are 'wasted' as well.
How are Spanger, Cheney & Pattison... McIntosh & Rivers... Young, Russell, Lynch... going?
All clubs recycle players... We were doing it before Lyon & we're doing it after Lyon - we added 5 this year.
The Lyon threads are getting sad, particularly considering how Fremantle looked last night.
He's a gun coach with flaws... Just like Lenny Hayes is a gun player with flaws, he's slow and average overhead.

Re: Ross Lyon's love affair with recycled players?
Did anyone pick up the conversation during commentary first qtr last night? I'll try to quote as good as I can.
Bruce Mc something about dawson following Lyon to Freo,
Leigh Mathews I was talking to Ross through the week about that and he said not so that Dawson was virtually there well before
he went there as coach.
Just curious as if this was common knowledge how come we couldn't get some sort of trade.
Obviously its all water under the bridge and move on just didn't seem the way I remembered it.

Ross may well have said that... But I doubt it's actually true, do you reckon Mark Harvey was gunning for Zac Dawson?wally wrote:It was there I rewound it and listened again
At any rate, he's not worth much in a trade, think I remember Freo offering us a late pick, which we rejected... They did however release Roberton so he could go where he wanted without a trade, as a gesture of good will.

Watch some other teams play football. Bit hard to have a valid opinion when you don't.
Also moronic is listing his stats that incorporate his whole career given it was only 5 years long. Why not just list his stats for his first year? Who are you fooling?
21ppg and 1 goal in his last year.
And for people that actually watch other teams - 21 possessions to Lovett were very very damaging. Run, carry, speed, goals. Handy on a half forward flank.
Must be why we took such a risk on him.
Seriously, I can keep explaining this to you for as long as you want. For as long as it sinks in. Maybe one day I will chip in for a foxtel subscription so you can watch more than one game a week on TV. This way you'll get to see other team's players more than once a year.

Hi spinner
Yes... Such a gun spinner, Essendon were willing to (trying to) offload him spinner
You keep telling yourself it was a good decision, like the Ball for zero?
I'll keep arguing the other way? I guess history will judge?
Actually I think it has?
Lovett is still probably bashing women, drinking daily and being a knob, Ball is winning hard ball!
Btw
21ppg is an interesting number
That's what BC averaged in his 35 or so games at Ricmond.... With his immaculate decision making and disposal? It's funny how the recruiting philosophy and process (due diligence yeah) changed in 12 months
I think we backed the wrong horse

Good move of Nettlefold and his supporters in sticking to "process" which, OK, was quite arbitrary, and getting rid of the bloke who took us to successive GFs. So what if we have to wait another 12000 years. After all, what has he done since? Just why he missed those shots on goal and then called a goal when it was a behind, alludes me. And as for forcing the ball away from Stephen on the bounce - he should be ashamed.

RL has no love affair all clubs do it. Hawks prime example where it has worked well. End of the day Ross did what he was there to do win a flag. It didn't work. Let's move on from Ross and concentrate on the future. Ross is very old news now.
