#37 Is A Spud
Not sure what his name is, but all I can say is that #37 will struggle to get a game for Sandy firsts this year.
Why on earth are we paying this spud?

Have Sandy recruited a gun forward?
If not regardless of how he plays at AFL, I would have thought he walks into the Sandringham team.

Re: #37 Is A Spud
Why on earth did we recruit him and play him at all over the past two years? I think we got him in the desperate belief that he may have filled in as a tall defender. GOP in the WAFL at best. Last year on the list. Surely.Bernard Shakey wrote:Not sure what his name is, but all I can say is that #37 will struggle to get a game for Sandy firsts this year.

Re: #37 Is A Spud
We got him because of Watters' bias towards sandgropers, didn't we?
Was lucky to have not been delisted at the end of last year. So too was #32.

Re: #37 Is A Spud
We need to finish bottom so that we can start to recruit a forward line of AFL standard, not one of WAFL standard.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Thought Beau Wilkes was better, not sure why they got this fella - similar attributes, but seems a bit worse.

He's an almost. Difference between his good and bad is too much. Some weeks I watch him and he looks almost quality, the next he looks insipid

Almost is the perfect word.jonesy wrote:He's an almost. Difference between his good and bad is too much. Some weeks I watch him and he looks almost quality, the next he looks insipid
I don't doubt his effort, but he just falls below what's required at this level, and unfortunately doesn't at least knock over the defence when he misses the grab.

Misses the grab too often and that is his only chance.

Spot on, hard to remember a player who gets his hands to the all s often only to drop the mark.Bernard Shakey wrote:Misses the grab too often and that is his only chance.
Quite frustrating can take a spectacular mark only to then drop a simple one.

What a strange thread.....unless you are a spud farmer.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.
Re: #37 Is A Spud
Yep he is the real issue. Disrepectful patheic supporter and not because he doesnt rate him but because he refuses to use the name he wants you to use. Its chidish crap.

Re: #37 Is A Spud
The guy can play there is no doubt about it.
He works hard, he leads to the right spots, he's not a bad kick, clearly trains well.
The big issue is that he isn't coming on. He's about 5% away from being a good player. He needs to be able to hold more marks and have a bit more mongrel.
The problem is, this is where he was 18mths ago

Re: #37 Is A Spud
How many marks did Riewoldt get in the forward line against GWS? Gee, some incredibly harsh judges here. Lee took one more inside 50 mark than Riewoldt. That surely makes him a better player than the number 12. Maister is an honest hard worker, and we know he's not a superstar, but he puts himself in the right positions, is prepared to take the big physical hits, and he's a reasonable contested mark. When he can't mark, he positions his body so that the ball falls to the front of the contest.

Bit harsh for a March practice match. I don't rate him either' and to be honest I couldn't be sold on him even in his first season. Calling him a spud though is a bit mean.

I'm wondering if our players would participate in Saintsational.........probably not if this is the way our own supporters talk about them

My main concern is more to do with our forwards always being outnumbered how often we they get a good old one on one contest

Funny enough Bigfooty has Maister cast in quite a positive light and Shenton is a whipping boy. We all need a victim to blame I guess. Beau for some reason just got to the Saints as we were falling away so he cops it. I don't understand why anyone would bag a saints player. They might not make it but they have done heaps better than I ever did in their footy careers. These guys put their life on hold to follow a dream and their families too.
Beau gave up on a trade career in WA to come and play -people assume he's well paid but he has to start again once it's over. He should be pumped up and we should be hoping he makes it at least as the third tall option. He has limitations but so do plenty of others at the moment.Poor sport performance is a confidence issue usually so shooting them down doesn't usually get the best out of someone.
