Jarryd Allen makes a comeback
http://www.thecourier.com.au/story/2107 ... at-waubra/
FORMER St Kilda forward Jarryd Allen will pull on the Waubra jumper this season in a comeback from the injury that ended his AFL career.
Roos president Chris Bourke has confirmed Allen – the younger brother of senior coach Jason – has been in training with the view of playing in the Central Highlands Football League in 2014.
Allen retired from the game at the age of just 21 after sustaining a hip injury in the opening minutes of the Saints’ semi-final against Collingwood in 2008.
etc etc
Geeze how time flies. 2008 seems like yesterday.

Good luck Jarryd. Going to be real tough with a hip replacement but obviously got the ok off his doctors.

Yep just another example of a club struggling because of the continued poor administration. I bet they knew what they were doing when they moved him to the rookie list - Im disappointed he didn't take his claim further he deserves to be reimbursed at the very least !
At that level it is their employment - if a builder or public servant sustained an injury that prevented them from continuing their career they would be entitled to millions. This starts at the top the AFL treat people like expendable commodities - not individuals giving the heart for the game!

Re: Jarryd Allen makes a comeback
Actually makes me sick… A guy who wrecked his body in the name of our club asks for some help to pay for his hip operations after his career is ruined at 22.
And we can't afford it? meanwhile Nettlefold is taking home 750k?, maybe he should personally help this poor young bloke out.
I don't get embarrassed by the club or players actions very often, but this was disgraceful.

Re: Jarryd Allen makes a comeback
One can perhaps argue about who should have paid what, but regardless of what was legally required it ethically does not stack up well.
As for the non returning of calls it has been all to common place by the Nettlefold administration.
I wish the kid all the best, remember the final and all seemed so simple hard to believe it ended his career.

It would be nice to be able to say that as a club, we look after our own

From an employee/business/player welfare perspective St Kikda would be the last club you would want your kid drafted to!skeptic wrote:It would be nice to be able to say that as a club, we look after our own

Is that based on you knowing everything about other clubs. What we did to Allen was poor but im sure those who follow other clubs closely would have some poor examples as well.
