My family used to holiday in Dromana and Rosebud in the 60's.
Chelsea was a suburb of Melbourne we used to pass on the Nepean Highway on the way to Frankston.
Like Edithvale, Aspendale, Carrum, Seaford.
We didn't consider any of that 'country' - just the southern suburbs of Melbourne.

Sure about that ? especially when Frankston was and is serviced by the CFA not the MFB and I think car owners got cheaper car registration fee because it was outside of Melbourne.
I think I heard the whole suburb of Frankston snort in derision at that Rego comment.
Back in the seventies, once you left the suburbs of Melbourne, the car rego including what was known as third party insurance was cheaper, on the theory there were less accidents in the"country" area than the metropolitan area, hence Frankston was outside Melbourne boundaries.

Or maybe once you drove down the Nepean Highway and the traffic signals were the coloured discs on the pole that moved like a clock- red, then yellow, then green ( I think there is a set in a museum somewhere) that made the area less Melbourne :D

People never labelled Fiora as soft?!

I think it may be in relative terms... And there are degrees of hardness....

From Lenny.... Down to Cripps

I wouldn't say Cripps is soft in general standards... But relatively speaking, in the AFL he is not a guy who enjoys winning too much of his own footy at the coalface

Billings doesn't strike me as soft... Only going on a half of footy but?.... Whoever, sometimes it can be determined with just a few contests....
A good contested mark for his size, indicates that he keeps his eye on the pill whilst there is body contact

Gold Coast out of Hobart - So City boy all the way!

We clearly have differing definitions of city!

If you think so. One minute you say it isnt a city but now its a big city. I would think its a rather small capital city.

Burnie is actually classified as a city, as is Devonport, Launceston and Glenorchy?

But seriously Con?

Hobart.... They play a test match there for gods sake?.... Oh, and the last Sheffield shield final was held there... Who won again?

Hobart is a Regional city - not a city in the way I mean. And in any case this isnt even the point.
My point is about kids who have something other than footy in their lives. If JB didnt make it in footy - he would still have a good and fulfilling life with plenty of other things to do. I like some dude who has nothing else but footy in their lives - that is the distinction i am trying to make. A junk yard dog like Milney for instance.

Anyway - just for sh*ts and giggles. According to my half baked theory - the following drafted players should do ok:

Tom Boyd -
Kade Kolodjashnij
Dom Sheed - (Kalgoorlie WA)
Patrick Cripps (Northampton WA)
Darcy Lang -
Jack Leslie -
Jarman Impey -
Darcy Gardiner -
Matt Crouch -

BTW - it seems 'Darcy' is a popular name down Geelong way.
And while I have my crystal ball out - the 2014 Brownlow medal will go down to rural seaside hamlet of Anglesea (Patrick Dangerfield).
Must be something in the water down the Great Ocean Road....

Are you aving a laff?
Maybe I should refine my definition to 'inner city posh suburb" - this will take out the confusion.

Possibly. In relative terms I suppose that terms could be used.

If it was David Parkin or Dermott Breteton or Glenn Archer calling a footballer soft, I would accept their opinion, as they had the credibility to use that label.

I dont think any of us can use that term on anyone who has achieved AFL standard, unless we have also played at that level.

I think you will keep refining your definition until it fits your opinion.

Most likely JB . I'll adjust the definition to fit the facts

And soft is an unfortunate word that I regret - obviously no AFL footy player is soft.

If i could re-wre it it I would use the phrase 'less hungry'.

You have to admit that Dom Sheed (Kalgoorlie) has a head like a piece of granite :D

Well thats makes him a much better player. Shane Crawford was nearly pretty looking and he is from Finley. Con this is quite funny.

it's actually very funny.

Imagine what Juddy would have been like if he'd grown up in Mt Isa.

Strengthens my point - thanks for bringing Crawf up.

Finley clearly toughened him up early!

If he grew up in Hawthorn he never would have been as good.

Remarkable place Finley,I hear tell that for a small place, its produced some high performers in various fields - didn't a relatively succesful Aussie band have someone from there?
