Watters has 'no regrets'
Too slow Bratty

"Replaced in dramatic circumstances after a personality clash with footy boss Chris Pelchen, he said yesterday only with a stable administration could a club achieve on-field success."
"“I’ve been fortunate to be a coach and a player at three great clubs, clubs that win premierships — West Coast, Sydney and Collingwood. From my experience it’s clear that it’s impossible to win a premiership or finish top four without a stable board, a strong chief executive and a highly competent head of football. Great clubs have great leaders."

"Another storied win in Robert Harvey's career. They say he is the embodiment of their motto of strength through loyalty, and on the day he became just the tenth man to play 350 league games the saints reward him with a seemingly impossible victory."

No regrets? Well that has to be a lie.
NO IFS OR BUTS HARVS IS KING OF THE AFL
Re: Watters has 'no regrets'
Right about one thing. You need a great board and had we had one he wouldnt have coached us. That is knocking him, its just fact. Well it aint fact but my very strong opinion.

Re: Watters has 'no regrets'
He failed to mention how great coaches don't have behavioral issues and do not constantly undermine those around them.
Great coaches also adapt quickly and change the game plan when it is not working.
He also failed to mention how he was not in charge and that is what he signed up for.

Re: Watters has 'no regrets'
In hindsight, and from what I have learned of Watters behaviour, I have no regrets that he was sacked.
Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

Re: Watters has 'no regrets'
He fast tracked some of our kids but as a coach he didn't do enough. You live and die by your on field performances and he went backwards a little to quickly.

interesting comment...

Maybe hiring an assistant coach without any permission from the footy department or board may have had a bit to do with the rapid change in feelings toward Watters.
Maybe Watters constantly talking about players behind their backs (& bagging them to other players) wore thin. Listen to the comments from senior players now... It's all about Richardson's honesty & straight talking (which they loved about Lyon too).
Watters was warned numerous times in the months leading up to his sacking to not go outside his areas of responsibility but he continued to do so. 'Hiring' Ashley Prescott was the final straw."

Well Scott the supporters of our great club have NO regrets you are gone - the only.downside to you leaving was having to pay you out! So in that respect the board made a terrible decision in giving you the job at all!
SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!

In case anyone is interested, one of our friends here at SS has posted his analysis of the saking of SW on youtube, I enjoyed it.

Re: Watters has 'no regrets'
Well he has it half right.
Clearly there is a power vacuum at the club being filled by Pelchen who may be a good footy manager but isn't a good CEO.
But sheesh it seems SW is still delusional. No regrets ? None ?
Surely he must have a few . TDL comes to mind.
SW really reminds me of Rudd. Terrific at talking the talk and great with the media but no real plan or idea and unable to delegate or work in a team or consult.

Re: Watters has 'no regrets'
Didn't Watters hire Adam Basil based on a telephone interview?
I always found the last minute team changes very confusing as well.

Re: Watters has 'no regrets'
I guess the real outcome will be how the club performs in season 2014, both on-field and off-field..the $500K the club forked out to remove Watters is going to need serious justifying. As for Rudd with all his faults.. well he got us through the GFC in reasonable shape by some clever forward thinking- something poor old Abbott will never be accused of!Con Gorozidis wrote:Well he has it half right.

Amen. The blokes that were responsible for his hire and fire and the non-keeping of Lyon all need to never be involved within the club again.plugger66 wrote:Right about one thing. would be considered bad form and not a smart thing to do if he wants to stay in the game...

Hey cairnsman,
Nope it was skeptic, it's his first attempt to make one and I agree, it's a good effort.

Re: Watters has 'no regrets'
I'm still not convinced...
Reckon we turned him batty, started off ok just lost the senior guys and became paranoid...perhaps with good reason?
Reckon Alan has bridged those issues, but at what expense I'm not sure. That era is over, I hope we don't show signs this year of embracing the past and it inhibits or progress forward.

REally, SW has no regrets - I guess a lazy half a mill for doing nothing eases most things.....
Maybe he hasn't seen a video package of his senior coaching career yet ??
