Re: Offer Fyfe the captaincy
Id say there is basically no chance of him leaving Freo.
BUT I agree with all posters - this is one guy id be happy to throw the war chest at.
He's only 22 - so could be the Saints 2019 Premiership Captain!

Straight swap - Fyfe for Ray and we also get $10 million

And to think, we could've got him for pick 16 in the 2009 draft. Instead, we got "you know who". Sigh.

If the contract talks go on hold it is looking bad for them. They will need a million per year or he will be off. The subtext is someone approached me and offered a fortune, match it or I will walk.

But would we have? That's the question.White Winmar wrote:And to think, we could've got him for pick 16 in the 2009 draft. Instead, we got "you know who". Sigh.
Neither the Bombers or several other clubs nabbed him before pick 20.
We would've got someone. But we'll never know who

Re: Offer Fyfe the captaincy
I can tell you for a fact, Spacey, we were interested, but went for the alleged, and ultimately acquitted, rapist. Did I mention he was a convicted wife beater and drunk? Character flaws were well known. It's amazing what the promise of pace and running ability will do. Couldn't even outrun the coaching staff, as it turned out.Dr Spaceman wrote:But would we have? Re: Offer Fyfe the captaincy
That is what was reported at the time but JB obviously knows more.
Some gossip I heard last night.
A guy who I know who serves me beers at my work local works with one of Lyon's hotel partners. He swears that he told him that the Saints did not want Lyon.
Also told me this week that just as these guys were about to sign a deal in March 13 to purchase an inner city pub, Ross got all call that Sandilands had done his foot (or knee) and he would be out for a while. Ross walked out on the deal because he couldn't deal with it at the time.

Re: Offer Fyfe the captaincy
I'm not saying this is fact but here is the reference I remembered
http://youtu.be/O0xbNdhAJnY
At 1 hour 25 min
"Ross Lyon came over to Perth and presented me with a St a Kilda number 9 guernsey"
He is a pretty serious drug addict so who knows.

Re: Offer Fyfe the captaincy
Fyfe is a WA country boy.
Family owns a sheep station or something, and he enjoys getting away from footy and driving a big semi carrying sheep to the markets etc.
He was interviewed on TV over here in Perth, and they showed him jumping down from the cab of a prime mover, with 2 trailers behind, full of baa-baas
Why would he go to Melbourne club. Money won't sway him, he loves the farm.
