AFL look to buy out Etihad stadium
Patrick Smith in today's Australian reports that the AFL are looking to bring forward the next media rights deal in order to finance the buy out of Etihad. They see ending the inequitable stadium deals as the greatest impediment to closing the gap between rich and poor clubs. Smith reports that negotiations for the buy out have been ongoing and that they were nearly completed last year with the league just coming up short.

AFL look to buy out Etihad stadium
Hallelujah !!
The future is becoming the present real quick it seems and it couldn't come quick enough for St.Kilda Football Club.
At last the afl are on the same page with me.
If there was one single action that the afl could do to show solidarity with the poor Dome tenants it is to buy back the farm a.s.a.p. They have hopefully seen the light with the need for financially equalising measures and how it actually benefits the stability of all clubs within the league. And they (afl) get more dollars to boot!

North and the Dogs estimate they've lost $15M each since playing games at Etihad in 2000.
We just need a buyout and $15M from the AFL and we're all sorted. And yet some think that the AFL has done such a wonderful job up until now.

Re: AFL look to buy out Etihad stadium
A recent development on this saga is the interest in a few of the bigger clubs now joining the chorus for a quick buy-back of the Dome. I beieve their rational is that if the Dome tenants are getting a fair go @ the Dome then the af will be feeling less pressure to limit the big club's football dept. spending. In otherwords their sudden support for a Dome buy-back is tactical more than anything. Still if we can remove this road block to our club's financial security and abiity to find a few dollars more for instance to spend on our own programs I believe things will start looking up.saintspremiers wrote:North and the Dogs estimate they've lost $15M each since playing games at Etihad in 2000.

I believe the NZ initiative is a good one and a second chance for us (financially) after abandoning Tasmania but on the other hand it would be nice to have the luxury of Collinwood and to keep all our home games at our home ground/ mcg for Saints supporters.
P.Smith claimed the afl were close to buying back the Dome in 2013. They have another chance to do it in 2014 so fingers crossed !

Re: AFL look to buy out Etihad stadium
Turn of the century...We have seen Geelong upgrade Kardinia Park and start to seek events such as soccer that were not possible in the past.
On field: Soft hand-baggers who hadn't won a flag in early forty years, running around in those fugly and embarrassing 'hoops', coach and captain had just betrayed them and walked out...
Off field: $6.5 million in debt...
Now, barely a decade later...
Meanwhile, back at the Saints... no we couldn't do what the Hillbillies have done. No way. Not realistic. Too hard.
Best stick to getting by hand to mouth. Based out in the irrelevant backblocks, watching the tumbleweeds roll by, outta' sight/outta' mind (think sponsors ).
Wouldn't want to unleash our potential to become the biggest, coolest, and best known (locally and OS) club in the AFL.
Nah, reclaim our Junction Oval home ground, and reclaim the limelight... will never fly... just ask Wilbur and Orville...
It's Dave, man. Will you open up? I got the stuff with me! -------Who?
