New leaders required
Who are the next leaders of this club? From afar as supporters we have no idea and all we can go from is the on field efforts shown . Therefore who do we need to see increased on field leadership from in 2014. Lenny, Roo, Monty have been there for a long time.
Geary seems to be standing up in this department but I would like to see the following develop this year:
Gilbert - make or break for him as to what type of career he will be remembered for
Armitage - Does he have the ability to become our version of a Daniel Cross/ Matthew Boyd . Not going to be an A grader but can he do the grunt work required
Dempster - may seem harsh but need to be on the field and become the leader of the backline.
Steven - Can he become an A grader with the extra attention he will attract after 2013
I would also like to see Stanley have to follow Roo everywhere over pre season to see him introduced to the concept of gut running and second efforts . Must stand up this year and show he can be a force in this competition
Any others?

Re: New leaders required
Too early to tell, but I really like the look of Roberton,
IF he continues to improve at last years rate I can see him as part of the leadership group.

Re: New leaders required
Is playing ability a requirement of a leader?
Not convinced about Armo and Steven... With their maturity levels (not talking about footy) .... Bit like Gilbo... None are the sharpest tools in the shed... Will continue to evolve but...
Geary is leader IMO but is a battler.... Curran would be in the same category
Newnes and Wright and possibly Longer seem serious, articulate young men... Who will be great players...
Markworth if he makes the grade... Is extremely intelligent and mature
Ross and Murdoch are both very serious characters, but are a bit inwardly focused at this stage...
Dunnell is a terrific leader, but only a VFL player
Leaders from the kids will come quicker now that some experience is gone.... But it is more a personality than an ability thing (must be able to hold senior spot though and influence games) .... Leaders are the boys that will start to set the example and not follow...

Seb Ross could have the ingredients.
Don't worry Tony Abbott will lead us to a glorious sun-kissed future.
seriously though l hope young Seb Ross comes through in the leading by example stakes. First time i noticed his demeanour was him getting his guernsey from the previous years draft pick and he looked like he was here for some serious business. He didn't bother smiling or whatever too much - Might have been Cripps who handede him his guernsey and he did all the smiling.
2013 did reveal young Seb holding his ground on occasion and i'm really hoping he in paticular can go on in leaps 'n bounds.
GO SEB!
GO SAINTS!

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.
Re: New leaders required
Out of the young brigade Newnes and Longer look the most likely. Both seem like they have the playing ability, personality and leadership to be captains. But I reckon they are both 2-3 years away from being ready. In the meantime have either Roo, Joey or Dempster filling the role.

Longer has played 9 games in 2 years and none at our club. Sad if he is one of the next in line.

Re: New leaders required
I thought young Jack Steven came across as a personable and bright young man at one of the pressers at training. (IMHO)

I'd like to see fisher captain !
his leaving the leadership group coincided with the side going down the ladder .
C'mon fish , help get the party restarted .

Re: New leaders required
Yes... Can he remain a A Grader with all of Dal's Taggers hanging off him? Or will they go to Joseph?!

Re: New leaders required
I for one would be curious to hear why Longer would be our next leader?
As for Jack Steven - great player, but his antics in NZ a couple of years ago worry me a little.
Whoever it is - they have to demand a spot in our team every week. Not sure any of the young guys are in that category. Let's hope a few emerge next year.

Are you confusing Longer with Stanley?Moods wrote:I for one would be curious to hear why Longer would be our next leader?
