Talk is cheap. Based on previous experience - it's highly unlikely !

When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss

I hope you don't invest on that basis. There's a reason investment promoters are forced to say "past performance is no guarantee of future returns".BigMart wrote:What is the best predictor of future behaviour?

It doesn't end - ever. Because we are too impatient. We have so many people run and support our club who want to change everything if we don't get success within a year or 2.oldie60 wrote:What if we stuff up again, where will it end.
Only 1 coach in our history has coached 6 or more years - Yabby.

Re: Can we get it right.
We need a CEO that has an intagible aura of leadership. Someone everyone respects that will unite all important cogs in the footy department machine.
Jason Dunstall was interim CEO for a brief time in 2004 at Hawthorn. Afterwards he was a board member with responsibility for everything footy related. If it was anything related to the football team it had to be ticked off by him and everyone needed to be on the same page with this leader.
Where is our Jason Dunstall?

We have to trust that the club can! (get it right!) and maybe, just maybe, not be quite so eager to see failure before it actually occurs! We all need to be united behind the club.

We don't have to trust them at all.thejiggingsaint wrote:We have to trust that the club can! (get it right!) and maybe, just maybe, not be quite so eager to see failure before it actually occurs! We all need to be united behind the club.
Trust is a two way street not something you expect.
The club's handling of the sacking has been poor, the timing, a month after a review suggested he go on, a fortnight after the president was quoted as saying the coach was a long term coach, followed by a press conference where nothing new, beyond the fact it was a hard decision, was revealed, a refusal to divulge the reasons behind the termination.
All of these things are not the actions of an organisation seeking a trust based on fact but one seeking blind trust.
I know that just because heads comes up 17 times in a row when you toss a coin does not mean a tail will not come up next time, at the minute this is as strong as the club's arguments for our trust.
As long suffering supporters we deserve greater clarity than this, the least successful sporting club in the world needs to say more than "trust us" to have us singing in chorus behind them.
Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friends.

I will predict that you will not be happy with either our coach, number 3 pick or actually any of the picks but after someone bursts out of the blocks from another team you will identify them as the one you would have picked.
You will believe the processes we use will be inferior to a school cricket side.
The only photos of pick 18 will be grainy so you will label them as only capable of reaching GOP status.
Plugger will think exactly the same as you but take a contrary position making himself appealing to a lot more posters than if he'd let himself roll.
You will label the Swans or Hawks as geniuses when one of their players get 18 possessions in his first ten games while ignoring any solid performances by any of our players.
You will be forced to deny you ever claimed one of our players the "worst ever" when they take a monumental leap.
When Choco or who ever gets us into finals in the next few years you will claim it was Ross Lyon's work and that he would have won the GF from the same spot.
Re: Can we get it right.
Selection of Ross Lyon was absolutely spot on. Track record isn't terrible in recent times.

Re: Can we get it right.
Taking the same steps as last time and expecting the outcome to be different is the definition of stupidity. Need to take a different approach which I fear we won't. Am truly hoping this whole panel thing is to just endorse an already made decision and or in part select the support coaches. If they want their man go out and get him. Panels and reviews and committees landed us watters

It will end in the exact same way it always does, at any club.oldie60 wrote:What if we stuff up again, where will it end.
A new group of people will be put in charge, and they will have a turn at getting it right.
In my opinion, getting one appointment right is not what results in success.
It's fluking several 'right' people in the place at the same time - and then getting a really good bunch of players in that same time also.
There's no secret to getting all those people right either. It's more luck than anything if you ask me.

How is that relevant in a footy club?BigMart wrote:What is the best predictor of future behaviour?
